INTRO:

Good evening men!

SCRIPTURE:

All of Joseph’s story is absolutely amazing from Genesis 37-46
Chapter 37 Joseph’s brothers hate him because he is his father’s favorite and Joe has given a bad report about them to their father. Joseph communicates two dreams of one day ruling over his brothers and this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. His brother’s(Reuben, Judah) were set on killing him but quickly changed their mind and decide to make a quick buck off him. keep in mind he is 17 years old.
Gen 37:18-28
English Standard Version (Chapter 37)
Joseph Sold by His Brothers
18 They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. 19 They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer. 20 Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits. Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams.” 21 But when Reuben heard it, he rescued him out of their hands, saying, “Let us not take his life.” 22 And Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him”—that he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father. 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colors that he wore. 24 And they took him and threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.25 Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gil-e-ad, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt. 26 Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh.” And his brothers listened to him. 28 Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.

TITLE: Here Comes The Dreamer

PRAYER:
STORY:
Anybody out there that just loves picking up new hobbies?
I think for me its a part of always craving to learn something new. There’s a lot of fun in it. But sometimes you revisit a hobby that you once loved and for me
I have recently gotten back into Rock climbing...
I absolutely love it because it is like an adult version of a playground. Not only is it a playground it is an opportunity to challenge yourself. You look around and discover that you are puzzle solving. Each puzzle is a route and once you put both hands on the last hold you have officially completed the route or puzzle.
But just like everything else, climbing has its own vocabulary.
You can Flash a route which is when you complete a route on the first try.
You can try bouldering which is climbing close to the ground without the use of a rope.
You can Belay someone which is keeping a climber from falling too far by using friction on the rope. The system that stops a climber's fall. It includes the rope, anchors, belay device and the belayer.
But you also have the beta.
Beta is information about a climb. "Running beta" is information given while the climb is being executed. Often times the one who has the best beta is the one who set the route.
For example if Johney and I are having trouble solving a route..we have a choice. We can keep trying to do it on our own and muscle through it and keep falling or we can ask for the beta. We can actually go to the guy that created the route. And he will give us the proper technique and information in order to solve the route.
We can be stubborn and try to figure it out or I can ask the one who created it in order to successfully go from point A to point B.
When I think about the beta I think about our relationship with God.
because the benefit is that we know the one who created the route for our lives. We know who gave us our desires and who gave us the plan for our lives. We know who gave us our dreams for our lives. God.
Go into point one

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Tonight I want to give us a few practical tips
(Because as men sometimes we can see the God dream but we are doubtful that it can happen…or it can be difficult to know where to start to see the God Dream become a reality)

POINTS:

Where do we start?
Focus on a person not the problem
Focus on the one leading you instead of what’s against you!
There will always be things that try to get in the way but we have everything we need to stay the course. We have Jesus: who is fully man and fully God!
*BECAUSE if we aren’y careful as men we are gonna try to muscle it. Just like in rock climbing all technique goes out the window we just try to go throw the route off sheer strength. Can I be real tonight? That doesn’t work well in life when you leave God on the sidelines and try to figure it out in your own strength. We need to recognize we can only do so much on our own and the best thing we can do is focus and partner with Jesus through our problems.
Listen to
John 16:33 ESV
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Jesus is warning the disciples of the further persecution that they would face but in their relationship with Him they will know peace. And that is the same with us!
Take heart I have overcome the world. Take heart I am bigger than your problems. I can handle them and they are not a surprise to me.
One of many things I learn from Joseph’s story is that when it comes to your calling, point A to point B isn’t always a clear shot. There are things that get in the way sometimes. But it is apart of the journey.
Be careful not to let someone or something hinder the God dream He has called you to in your life. Because Joseph didn’t let anything hold him back. Not even the many problem’s he faced!
***I want to give a little recap of Joseph’s story because God worked through every problem Joseph’s face and I believe it will encourage us tonight! ***
He had rough start..after sharing two dreams with his brothers and father his brother’s grow aggravated and jealous of Joseph so they throw him into a pit to die then they decided it would be better to make money off him so they sell him as a slave!
(twenty shekels is equal to the cost of 4 eggs…)
talk about a low point
Joseph is bought by Potiphar Gen 39:2–18 (An officer of Pharoah)
Joseph find’s favor in Potiphar’s Household
Joe was successful because the Lord was with him. Maybe you need that reminder tonight. Even Potiphar could see that the Lord was blessing Him and he made him overseer of the house. And Potiphar’s household was blessed because of how God was pouring out His favor on Joe! Who are we to think that we are undeserving of God’s blessing in our own lives? This was the path that God called him to and he actively saw him through it.
If God called to it he will see you through it!
Even after this point Joe still faced adversity.
Joseph Resists Potiphar’s Wife and She falsely accuses him Gen 39:7–18
Joseph Is Imprisoned
but even in prison God blessed him. Before you know Joseph is Pharaoh’s high ranked official!
He went from being in a pit to owning the land of Egypt! If God made a dream become a reality then he can also work in your life!
Focus on God no matter what the road looks like because he is the one that establishes our steps.
Hold onto His promises instead of the pressure
The great advantage to this is that unlike Joseph we now have the new covenant promises to hold onto in times of need. AND they are found in his word!
2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV)
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
*His word is for our benefit in the path God has called us to!
Do you feel the pressure at times? You are equipped for every good work because we have his truth and promises to lean on.
*Another promise we can hold onto is that his word is a weapon when come across a problem or when we feel the pressure!
Ephesians 6 talks about the armor of God and the only offensive weapon mentioned is the word.
Ephesians 6:17 ESV
“and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,”
The sword of the spirit is the word. So when adversity comes your way while you’re walking toward the plan and calling for your life then use the word. Use the promises that are found in here!
Because what happens when we read the promises our loud? Faith rises!
Faith comes from hearing and hearing that word of God!
If God spoke it than you can cling to every word He has spoken because he faithful to fulfill what He has called you to in life! Nothing can get in the way of the God dream and plan. Forget about my plan! I want His plan for my life.
What’s amazing about Joseph’s story is that he got a dream from God and through everything God didn’t go back on the dream he gave him. He went from rags to riches. He went from being a slave to being what God says he does.
He is faithful to fulfill his promises.
