What does it mean to live on mission?

It is to realize that our mission is happening all around us.

Saturate 15 Everyday Rhythms

life has a normal rhythm. All people everywhere are engaged in things that happen in rhythm—day in and day out. When we engage in these everyday rhythms with Jesus-centered, Spirit-led direction, mission can happen anytime and everywhere, and anybody can be a part of it.

Missionally minded people must be humble because they think about themselves less than others.
We must be missional in the Rhythm of life.
6 Rhythms we can partake in with others. (Saturate)

Eating

Saturate 15 Everyday Rhythms

Whether we acknowledge it or not, something unseen also happens between people when they eat together. Their common need is met with a common provision. The meal creates an experience of unity—of oneness at a table.

The table is where differences cease because you have a common need. It doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, tan; European, Asian, African or American.
We all eat, it is essential for our survival, but it is also essential for our fellowship.
Tell the story of being a dorm leader in college and not planning very well.
The food brought the opportunity for communion.
The table is the best place to become more missional. Incorporate others at your table and mission will happen.

Story

Form the collision between their story and God’s story.
Everyone is living out a story. They need a true and better story.
Your story can be a bridge to helping someone discover God’s story.
YOU MUST BE VULNERABLE! If your story is going to build a bridge, then you actually have to share your story. Nobody wants the watered down story of you. Don’t give the good version, give them the real version.

Listening

The key to connection is listening.
Your story needs to be heard…but so does theirs. If we are going to try and walk along side someone else who is very different than us, we must understand who they are and what they have went through.
If you can’t listen, you can’t understand.
A missionally minded person will look for “their” story not just want to spout off about their own.

Blessing

“Blessing shows the heart of God”
We must share our lives with those around us. Are you willing to sacrifice your time and energy in order to reach out to others with the gospel.
Blessing means you are willing to be a blessing even when someone else can’t bless you back. We don’t bless to get a blessing. We bless because Jesus blessed us.
Blessing may look like giving a single mom groceries because she can’t afford them.
It might mean you help a friend fix their car so they don’t have to take it into a repair shop
It might mean you watch a new couples kid so they can go on a long neglected date.
Acts 20:35

Celebrate

Find reasons to throw a party. Think of ways to bring people together so they can have fun.
Celebrating is something almost everyone likes to be a part of. Whether it’s a tailgate party before a football game or a dinner for the super bowl. People like getting together and throwing parties.
Jesus’ first miracle is at a party.
God gave feasts to mark out special moments in history, where everyone’s life would stop and focus on community and the great works of God.
What are you doing to stop your life and focus on those around you?
We must learn to focus on those outside our circle and celebrate with them.
Tell the story of my family.

Recreate

“Rest and create” = Recreate
How can we learn to rest from our work, and then incorporate others into that Rest.
“Christians should be the most creative people.”
What are some ideas you and your Lifegroup could do to be more missional?
We have mentioned 6 “Rhythms” of life. Be creative and think of some simple ways you and your Lifegroup can learn to include others into your Rhythm of life?
Scenario #1:
You and your Lifegroup meet weekly in a particular neighborhood. You notice that there are a lot of young families moving into the area. All of a sudden the neighborhood went from a older quiet community to now bikes are flying up and down the road and kids are playing outside.
Scenario #2:
Your Lifegroup meets in a home where, just down the street there is a large community of migrant workers both Latino and Ethiopian. Some are able to speak English, but most have a hard time understanding you when you talk. You have a burden to reach these people with the gospel but are unsure how.
