Introduction

Ezekiel 3:17 KJV 1900
17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

Body

According to the Canadian Army Journal, a former president of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences, aided by historians from England, Egypt, Germany, and India came up with some fantastic figures and findings:
Since 3600 B.C. the world has known only 292 years of peace. During this period there have been 14,531 wars, large and small, in which 3,640,000,000 people have been killed. The value of the destruction would pay for a golden belt around the world 156 kilometers (97.2 miles) in width and 10 meters (about 33 feet) thick.
Since 650 B.C. there have been 1,656 arms races, only 16 of which have not ended in war. The remainder have ended in the economic collapse of the countries concerned.
Wars, and therefore warriors, have been around since the creation of mankind
Since the introduction of human government and the formation of city-states, armies have been used as a tool to enforce policy.
Governments have employed the professional soldier to build their armies.
Today people from every walk of life enlist in the Armed Forces, and for a great variety of reasons.
College money
Don’t know what they want to do after High School

Patriotism / love of country
An idea or concept of what our country should be
What does the American Serviceman do? What are his responsibilities?
Offence - Enforce the foreign policies of the United States abroad
Defense - Defend Freedom, Liberty, the American way of life
As Christians we are called on to accept the exact same responsibilities
Offence - We are called to enforce Biblical precepts and doctrines in this fallen world
Defense - We are called to stand on a wall and protect and defend:
Our families
Our Church body
Our city and county
Our nation
Our world
Story about guard duty - it’s hard and it’s boring. Easy to get distracted or to fall asleep
God has made you a watchman over your family, your church, your city, your nation
You are instructed to give them God’s message
You cannot keep silent
We must stay alert. We cannot afford to be lulled into a false sense of security, or to become distracted, or God forbid, to fall asleep!
Let us hold fast to the example given us by these brave men and women who served with honor and who executed their responsibilities faithfully
When Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius there were many persons buried in the ruins who were afterwards found in very different positions.
There were some found in deep vaults, as if they had gone there for security. There were some found in lofty chambers. But where did they find the Roman sentinel?
They found him standing at the city gate where he had been placed by the captain, with his hands still grasping the weapon. There, while the earth shook beneath him; there, while the floods of ashes and cinders overwhelmed him, he had stood at his post; and there, after a thousand years, he was found.
