I. The Preparation vs. 1-7

A. The Bible is unclear of how Jesus knew this, but being fully God and fully man, He knew.
B. The reason that Jesus rides a colt because they were associated with King David’s reign.
Zechariah 9:9 NASB95
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
C. An animal that was devoted to a sacred task could not be for ordinary use. Deut. 21:3 ““It shall be that the city which is nearest to the slain man, that is, the elders of that city, shall take a heifer of the herd, which has not been worked and which has not pulled in a yoke;”
D. This shows Jesus, as a humble “everyman” king. (Jimmy Carter walked instead of riding in the limo at his inauguration in 1977 ex)

II. The Presentation vs. 8-11

A. To lay down the poor man’s red carpet, was the way they’d welcome a conqueror. This was done for Simon Maccabeus who delivered Jerusalem 150 years before this.
B. Hosanna, was a typical passover greeting meaning save of save us. They were saying Jesus, save us and set up you kingdom. Save us from 1) Rome; 2) Religion; 3) Wrongs (sin).
D. Luke 19:39-40 shows us that if we don’t praise Him creation will!
E. Here is the prince of peace coming to conquer souls the first time. When He comes back He will conquer the Earth and set up the kingdom. He comes to get His bride and then a kingdom, because what is a kingdom without someone to share it with!

III. The Prophecy: Luke 19:41-44

Luke 19:41–44 NASB95
When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. “For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
A. Jesus weeps, because He knows who is legitimate and who ain’t! He had offered them salvation over and over again.
B. Yet they refused it, and their fate was horrific. In 70 AD., Rome utterly destroyed Jerusalem, just like Jesus said.
C. Jesus weeps over the lost, and so should we.
D. Will you cry out for Salvation, or will Jesus cry over your lost soul?
