Intro: Welcome my Friends
BIBLE TEXT: James 3:13-18 “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

Title Points:
Outline 1
Bible Text : James 3:13 “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
The truly wise person demonstrates his or her understanding of Christ by the way he or she lives.
Our works show where our hearts are invested (Matthew 6:19–21, 33).
Do our attitudes and motives match our actions?
Cross Reference: Matthew 6:19-21 ““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
1st Point: Make Spiritual Deposits
One Application:
There are a lot of dumb people with smart phones.
At a touch of a button you can have knowledge,
But Wisdom is putting knowledge into action
Wisdom, then, involves both actions and attitudes in living. A wise life will display not only goodness, but also humility.
Personal Story: I remember a friend in the church who had so much knowledge of the bible, but when it came to applying practical principles he couldnt do it
Outline 2
Bible Text ;James 3:14 “But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
Being bitterly jealous is misguided zeal that results in contentiousness.
It is anger at the accomplishments of others. Whenever we find fault with a leader, we must ask ourselves what is motivating us to feel strongly about that person’s failure
Cross Reference: Philippians 2:3 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”
2nd Point: Stay In Your Lane
One Application:
Selfish ambition is the desire to live for one’s self and no one or nothing else, only for what a person can get out of it.
A person wins a new car and you are saying congratulations with anger
Personal Story: We make it a point at our gym when people are finished with the workouts. I go around and let others know who are finished to go beside the ones that are not finished and encourage not discourage.
Outline 3
Bible Text : James 3:15 “This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
This wisdom doesn’t come from above it is earthly and unspiritual.
It is used in the New Testament one who doesn’t have Gods spirit.
He teaches only wisdom of this life , based on human feelings.
Cross Reference: 1 Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
3rd Point:
One Application:
The real source of these thoughts are from the devil.
Personal Story:
Bible Text : James 3:16-17 “For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
People filled with jealousy and selfish ambition think they must be first in everything. They cannot stand to see anyone else in the limelight, or have anyone else cast a shadow on what they do.
\The wisdom that comes from heaven is … pure. To be fruitful for God, we must have moral and spiritual integrity. It is also peace loving. This is peace that goes beyond inner peace; it is opposed to strife.
Cross Reference:
3rd Point:
One Application:
God’s wisdom shows no partiality, meaning single-minded and free from prejudice toward people and without double-mindedness toward God (1:5–8). Finally, it is always sincere, .” God’s wisdom makes people genuine.
Personal Story:
Bible Text : James 3:18 “Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
Peacemakers are able to plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of goodness.
This how you are to control the tongue:
1. Seek God’s wisdom.
2. Admit jealousy and arrogance without trying to cover them up.
3. Create a climate of peace wherever God leads you.
Cross Reference: Psalm 1:3 “He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”
3rd Point:
One Application:
Being one of peace is having Gods living water flowing from within in you.
People want to be around people that have a sense of peace around them
