Introduction

Recap of last lesson:
We ended last time with a hard teaching from Jesus that sent many people away in confusion.
For tonight we see Jesus in a region called Galilee and we will read that Jesus is traveling to Jerusalem. Before I have you read the story in your groups I want to put this into perspective. The distance from Galilee to Jerusalem is roughly around the same distance from Eureka to Springfield, IL. A trip that takes about 1 1/2 in a car but there were no cars in Jesus’ time period. So it would be a 2-3 days journey walking.

Closing thoughts

To wrap up our study tonight of John 7. I think it is safe to say that the people are divided over Jesus. There are people who strongly oppose him, even to the point of trying to kill Him. Then we have people who believe in Jesus. The key verse in this chapter comes from the crowd who started to believe in Jesus.
Read John 7:31
John 7:31 CSB
However, many from the crowd believed in him and said, “When the Messiah comes, he won’t perform more signs than this man has done, will he?”
This verse is a summary point of what we have read so far in the Gospel of John. Jesus is not just someone who said a bunch of things and said follow me. He proved that He was God by all the signs and miracles that He preformed. Those are the proofs that Jesus is who He said He is.
This means that we can believe that what Jesus says is true. So when Jesus says v. 38 we should trust in that as truth.
John 7:38 CSB
The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.”
This simply means that whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life in Heaven. Then what is implied is the opposite, those who don’t believe in Jesus will experience eternal torture in Hell.
Now this truth can seem boring after hearing it week after week but this is so important. Sometimes we need a wake up call when we get used to some for so long.
Tell story about being tired last night before going to the play. Then having a wake up call when we hit a deer.
We need a spiritual wake up call!
Ends of the Earth Movie last night. People begging to receive God’s word.
We need to have that same desire.
For believers, the gospel is a wake up call to spread God’s truth to others around them.
For unbelievers, the gospel is a wake up call to trust in Jesus as your savior before it’s too late.
Dismiss groups to pray.
