A Surprise After Death

I was attending visiting hours after the death of the mother of a friend of mine. He introduced me to several members of his family, including, to my surprise, his father.

I had never heard him speak of his father except to mention that the family had been abandoned by him many years before. It was difficult to not notice the coolness that pervaded the room upon the arrival of this stranger from the past.

Several weeks later, my friend told me about the reading of his mother’s will. Among other, lesser items, the nice home on the waterfront was to be sold and the money to be divided among the several children. My friend had hopes that he might be able to buy the house himself, as he loved it’s beautiful location.

Several weeks later, he told me the sad news. The house did not belong to his mother and was not hers to leave to her children! She assumed it was hers, but in reality, it belonged to her husband, my friend’s father. None of the children received a dime from its rapid sale.

Be sure you know what’s yours before death! Don’t wait to be surprised!
