demons: Who They Are, What They Do
demons like with angels we can error on both ends of the spectrum.
it is not good to have an over active infatuation with them.
but is equaly wrong to ingore their existence,
I have heard too many christians say.....I just focus on Jesus, I don’t need to know about demons,
The problem with that is Jesus taught us about demons and demonstrated how to deal with them.
If you simply ingore demons you have to ignore Jesus’ teaching on them.
The Bible references demons over 100 times.
most of which take place in the NT
Conversely, if you beleive their is a demon behind every door
you will be consumed with battle and never enjoy the rest Jesus purchased for you!
What are demons?
The term “demon” is used to describe a wide variety of spiritual beings.
The word derives from the Greek term daimōn,
which refers to different types of beings,
they can be defined as those that are evil.
Where did demons come from?
Like angels demons have not always existed.
They were created!
Did God create demons?
No God didn’t
Everything God created was Good!
God created angels some of which rebelled against Him thus choosing to become demons.
demons are angels who rebelled agaist God
Who leads the demons?
The Bible referes to this being by many terms
satan
52x the Bible refers to it as satan
its a title not a name the satan
Day Star/Son of the morning .... aka Lucifer
In the book of Isaiah this creature is called the "day star."
This has the idea of "bearer of light."
This name, translated into Latin, is Lucifer.
This was the name of satan before his fall.
it no longer bears this name.
The Anointed Cherub
the Devil
Only appears in the NT
Tempter
Ruler of Demons
Beelzebul
The evil one
Enemy
Liar
Father of Lies
Dragon/ serpent of old / Deceiver Of The Whole World
This reminds us of the Garden of Eden when Satan came to Adam and Eve in the form of a serpent.
It speaks of his cunning.
Accuser Of God's People
God Of This Age
the devils fall
Pride
the first sin
the devil aspired to be like the Most High
to exalt its throne above the angels of God
the devil wanted to replace God.
but that was not going to happen
If we continue to read in Isaiah chp 14
How many demons are there?
from this we surmise that one third of the created angels reblled against God and followed satan
Since the angels were inumerable, 1/3 of countless is still alot.
Heirarchy in the demonic rhealm
Their purpose
Is to take as many people to Hell with them
like angels operate to see the will of God carried out
demons operate to see the will of the devil done on earth
however demons follow the devil out of fear
not love and loyalty like angels follow God
As a result the demomic world is in shambles
infighting, constant deception,
they have the same disdain for each other as they do for us!
as a result they are destined to fall and fail
Nameless
Often when we confront demons we discover they don’t have regular names like Michael or Gabriel
Instead we know them by their function.
death, greed, suicide, anger, hatred
Even the Jezebel spirit is a category of demons rather than a name of a specific demon.
Why is this?
Authority is derived from the name
in the days of cheques your name on the check gives you authority to write the cheque.
someone else may steal your cheque and forge your name, but they don’t have the authority to do it.
satan who used to be called Lucifer lost that name when he lost his authority
same is true with the demons who rebelled with him
Who’s got the authority?
Jesus
after His death and ressurection
If Jesus has all authrority how much authority does satan have?
NONE
We don’t need to fear satan or his demons
But we do have a part to play
Our Role
We win in the end
let’s pray
