1 John 2:6 NKJV
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

Thanksgiving

Most of us have enjoyed a Thanksgiving Celebration this week
Thanksgiving dinner with the family
Probably a day of food and football
If Jesus came to your House
If you are a Christian, Christ will come to your house
For what would Jesus give thanks?
Matthew 11:25 NKJV
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.

Jesus is Thankful for the Simplicity of the Gospel

The scene: Jesus’ ministry (vv. 5, 6, 20–24)
His outreach to the poor and needy
Matthew 11:5–6 NKJV
5 The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”
Rejection by the proud cities and Pharisees
The great mistake (1 Cor. 1:17, 18; Rom. 1:20–24)
Romans 1:20–24 NKJV
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,
Although they knew God --- yet they were unthankful
So many these days live in exactly the same way
knowing of God, attending church even, enjoying the blessings of faith
yet, without thanksgiving, or humility, or genuine love
The road to blessing is the road of humility
Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God (1 Peter 5:1–6)(Be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud)
“He that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Luke 14:11)
Jesus is thankful, as He looked over the multitude, that education, riches, and fame could not earn heaven
5. You must come to Christ as a little child

Jesus is thankful for the Sufficiency of the Father

John 6:11 NKJV
11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.
“When He had given Thanks”
The scene: Feeding of the five thousand
The great need and the limited resources available
How would you like to have that crowd drop in for Thanksgiving?
Philip’s dilemma: not enough to meet this need
Jesus proving Philip … Philip would be a better man
The comfort … He knew what He would do
Jesus gives thanks for the provision
He made the universe, yet was thankful for loaves and fishes
Called forth the first stalk of wheat, yet was thankful for bread
Spoke the first fishes into existence, yet was thankful for those given to Him
He set the example that we should follow
How little we show our thankfulness!
How much we take for granted!

Jesus is thankful for Salvation through the Cross

1 Corinthians 11:23–24 NKJV
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Christ with the disciples in the Upper Room at time of the Passover
Jesus offered Thanksgiving for the food
But this is not just thanksgiving for the food
“This is my body which is broken for you.”
“This is the New Testament in my blood.”
What amazing love! Thankful even for the cross
For the joy which was set before Him
that joy is your salvation
despising the shame ...
Thankful that men can be saved even though it takes the cross
If Jesus Christ is so thankful, even for His Cross, how are we doing?
Are we thankful for our own calling?
though it cost us something?
though it cost us everything?
Conclusion
How has your thanksgiving measured up?
What are you Going to do about it?
