Introduction
This chapter continues to discuss peoples, nations, languages, and kings that will exist during the Tribulation Period.
Imagine living in a world of devastation in the tribulation
Imagine the grace of God in the Tribulation still working
We will learn more about the 144,000 Jewish evangelists, the Tribulation Saints, the city of Jerusalem, and those who take the mark of the Beast.
We will also learn about Armageddon and Babylon.
See Notes on Mount Zion (John Walvoord)
Mount Zion was the name of an ancient fortified hill controlled by the Jebusites*.
King David captured the hill and took up residence in the fortress at the top.
He then built a city around the fortress, which was called by two names:
(1) the city of David, and (2) Jerusalem*.
Today, some refer to the hill as the Temple Mount and to Jerusalem as the political and religious capital of Israel.
In the future, they will refer to the hill as the site of the Millennial Temple,
and they will refer to the city as the City of God, City of Righteousness, City of Truth, city that God loves, city where God reigns, and more.
This morning we will begin with:
I.
A Lamb Standing on Mount Zion
John now sees Jesus standing on Mount Zion in Jerusalem, with his 144,000 Jewish evangelists gathered around him.
These 144,000 are those believers whose name of Jesus’ Father written on their foreheads.
God is showing the world a great miracle.
Jesus will seal the 144,000 Jewish evangelists between the opening of the sixth and seventh seals.
The seventh seal will produce the seven trumpet judgments.
During the seven trumpet judgments, (they are spirits)
one-third of the earth and trees will burn up,
one-third of the sea will turn to blood,
one-third of all ships will be destroyed,
one-third of the fresh water will be polluted,
and one-third of the light of the sun and moon will be diminished.
The antichrist will kill multitudes trying to eliminate most of the Jews
and try to stop the preaching of the 144,000, but not even one of these Jewish evangelists will die.
Christians are sealed with the Holy Spirit as soon as they accept Jesus as their Savior.
This sealing means that believers belong to God, and it is a guarantee that they will be protected throughout eternity.
The Preacher’s Outline and Sermon Bible - The Lord Jesus Christ is going to be victorious over the world.
He is going to triumph over evil and bring righteousness and godliness to earth.
The kingdom of God will reign upon earth.
How do we know this for sure?
Because the Scripture reveals it to us.
This is the purpose of this great chapter: to show us that the victory of the Lord Jesus Christ over this world and its ungodliness is assured.
Jim Combs - In this chapter, verse one, the Lamb is the Leader.
In verse four the Lamb is the Redeemer.
In verse ten the Lamb is the Judge.
II.
Heavenly Harps
Singing will be heard in heaven for the 144,000 who stand unhurt on Mount Zion.
They alone have survived the disasters of the Antichrist and False Prophet.
The singing will be
(1) “like the voice of many waters”—the great sea or multitudes of people, Revelation 17:15;
(2) “like the voice of loud thunder”—the voice of God or the seven thunders, Revelation 10:3; and
