Let's go to the Lord in prayer.
Heavenly Father.
We come to you grateful that you Created and sustain the entire Cosmos.
We don't claim to understand how that works.
But we do.
Proclaim our belief.
We trust you.
We trust your sovereignty, We Trust.
Who you are- your character?
And we submit ourselves to it.
We submit ourselves to your sovereignty.
As we enter the Christmas season, we pray that you will help us to again be reminded that
we need a savior; that I need a savior; that this church needs Our Savior Jesus Christ.
Some of us feel it, deeply having recently.
Lost those, we love or even fought for our own lives in the hospital.
others of us feel the Brokenness of our world, because of children or other family members that have made choices that have further created separation and brokenness from you.
We pray for Redemption.
We pray for righteousness to reign in those situations.
We pray that you will manifest yourself into presents to us today.
That we may know experientially that you are God With Us.
And it's in the name of Jesus.
We pray.
Amen.
I want to tell you the Greatest Story Ever Told.
The Greatest Story Ever Told begins as most good stories do as all good stories, do at the beginning.
However, from what we would think of as in the beginning is not quite far back enough.
So I want you to imagine the beginning, the start of time, the start of the cosmos and then take one step further back.
Into that nothingness, there is not something, but someone there is the Triune God, the father, son and spirit.
And in that nothingness, that we do not understand.
But my faith, believe God.
Spoke.
God spoke he created, he made from nothing.
Going to be borrowing heavily from athanasius and some of his his works this morning and ended at 2 to paraphrase athanasius.
If God did not create from nothing.
Then all that he was doing was forming what was already there.
So it's some point in the very distant past.
There was nothing in God created it and spoke it into being.
And the culmination of his creation was humans.
God, because of his character could not create another, God could not create a perpetuation of who he himself is, but being the Pinnacle of creation and him being the most wonderful thing that any mind could ever conceive.
It is, though he looked in the Divine mirror and said, I will make something like me.
I will make something that looks like me.
It is not me.
But it images me.
I will create humankind male and female.
They will together reflect who I am in a wonderful, and amazing way.
And I will put them into a perfect place.
I will put them in Paradise.
And there they will have the opportunity to flourish.
But they didn't.
They didn't flourish.
Because they chose to sin, and the image within was destroyed, not completely, but partially it was not discarded.
But the painting of creation was blurred.
By the act of rebellion against God by man.
And from that moment on man has been marred by sin, and our sin has existed and permeated all other creation.
Would you go back and read Genesis 1:1 in the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth, the Earth was without form and void and darkness was over the face of the deep.
And the spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters and verse 3 begins, God's creative work and God said
And he began his created work, putting man into a perfect place.
Lest any say that, it was God's fault.
That man fell.
It was not.
We're told in John 1, something else.
It begins to paint more complete picture for said, in the beginning was the word, the log us and the log house was with God in the Lagos was God.
So there is Jesus at the beginning of time before time, began with God.
The father and God, the spirit existing eternally, three-in-one and the truest of all Tales of all time.
Began.
All other great narrative are but an imitation a substitution or a replacement for this great story, and at the heart of the story is this one thing.
We want a god with us.
We want to Divine a supernatural or an advanced human being protecting.
Think of the stories that you've enjoyed recently.
We want a hero like us.
But up to like us.
He has to be special.
Anybody like John Wayne?
I do have a friend who is with the Lord now in and she used to love John Wayne movies.
She watched the number of them.
Probably.
All of them.
Probably many many times.
And you think that the quintessential John Wayne movie right?
There is a town full of regular people like you and I and we instantly would probably form a bond and kinship and understanding that they represent us in this narrative.
A, a presenting problem normally with a gun.
And a hat, not unlike what a couple of the kids were wearing up here and the gun in the man with the hat was not a good guy.
We could use terms back then like good guy, bad guy.
So they're a bad guy.
Bad guy, bad guy comes, he's taking over the town or he wants to take over the town or he's going to do something evil and unrighteous.
And what happens?
A man with a hat and some boots and some Spurs and it done just like everybody else comes in.
Come on.
Not just like everybody else in steps John Wayne into the store, you know what I mean?
And he comes and he's just like us.
He walks on two legs, but the legs the inseam is a little bit.
Kohler.
Then everybody else.
The voice is a little bit deeper than everybody else.
The drawl is a little bit more pronounced than everybody else.
And of course, the name is more true.
Or at least faster.
Then everyone else and whose Origins are normally.
Mysterious you see, he's not from around here.
But one of the universal truths of a good story like that is that once the hero who is like us but not to like steps into the story than the celebration of that story.
