Thanksgiving is more than a day; it is a duty.
Thanksgiving is more than a holiday on our calendar; it's a condition of our heart.
Thankfulness is not our natural disposition.
We are, by nature, ingrates according to Scripture.
Orthodox theologians teach that pride was the sin of first parents, and I agree, yet we could attach to that teaching ingratitude.
God the Father had provided an abundance of riches, only forbidding them one tree.
Could there be any act so ungrateful as the refusal to enjoy all that God had given them?
When we reject God's commands, we reject His goodness, thereby expressing ingratitude.
Throughout the Gospels, we see thanksgiving as the first response of those who encounter Jesus.
Therefore, thanksgiving is the logical lifestyle of a Christian.
Of the 150 Psalm’s only one carries the title A PSALM FOR GIVING THANKS.
I want to use this Psalm to help us become a more grateful people and person by seeing the four logical expressions of Thanksgiving.
DOXOLOGICAL
“I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation.
It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed.
It is frustrating to have discovered a new author and not to be able to tell anyone how good he is; to come suddenly, at the turn of the road, upon some mountain valley of unexpected grandeur and then to have to keep silent because the people with you care for it no more than for a tin can in the ditch; to hear a good joke and find no one to share it with. . . .
Thanksgiving leads to thanks living.
THEOLOGICAL
The verb “know” means “to know by experience.”
It also carries the meaning of “acknowledge.”
What we have experienced in our hearts we openly confess to others and bear witness of our glorious God.
The phrase “made us” means much more than “He created us,”
SOCIOLOGICAL
Gratitude should be a continuous attitude, not an occasional incident.
Grumbling is the accent of hell and gratitude is the accent of heaven.
PSYCHOLOGICAL
How do we know this is true of the Lord?
The testimony of Scripture and history’s attested track record.
Are you troubles preventing you from being thankful?
Then, quit studying the problems and start studying the promises.
