Scripture

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

Introduction

We’re living in a time now where people’s idea of the church has become so misconstrue that they are now asking the question. Why do I need church?
It’s nothing but a clique some say
a social club
a place where people look down on you and etc..
We’ve all heard these among many excuses on why people don’t want to step foot in the church.
The purpose of the church is not defined enough
We’re trying to gain them into the church without a clear understanding of that the church is.
And because it’s undefined they become frustrated and leave the church because they no longer see the purpose in it.

The beginning of the church

The God’s plan for the church did not start in Acts, but God was showing us the revelation of the church in the Old Testament.
2 Chronicles 15:3 gives us a detailed church on why the church is necessary.

For many years Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without instruction,

The prophet in this text is referring back to the book of Judges.
He shows that the country was chaotic because the people lacked three things.
A lack of a relationship with God.
The lack of a teaching priest.
The lack of biblical instruction.
A. The lack of relationship - We see God’s presence in the book of Judges, we see offerings we even see a move of the Holy Spirit, but that does not make up in the lack of relationship.
Just because you go to church and you are active in ministry does not mean that you have a strong relationship with Christ.
B. The lack of priest who taught them word. There was not a lack in priest, but a lack in sound biblical teaching from the priest.
Lord knows we don’t have a lack of churches online right now, but sometimes our sermons are no way sound in teaching.
We’ve become great in image and marketing and self help but not biblical instruction. None of these things are helpful when we’re dealing with spiritual warfare.
C. Finally because we do not have relationship we have no biblical application to apply to our daily lives and this is when Satan enters.
So the reason the world is chaotic is because we lack these three things, which is why the church is so necessary..
And God is allowing the choas. verse 6

Nation was crushed by nation and city by city, for God troubled them with every possible distress.

When we as the church are not in position this is what happens.

The purpose of the church

We’re dealing with so much warfare in the spiritual realm which is why God ordained the church to instruct us and guide us through this world.
The church is not bound to a Sunday morning experience. The word church in the greek is ekklesia- which means called out ones, also means a gathering of believers. So the church is not 4 walls but a group of people called out to gather as the family of God.
We are more than just church goers we are called out!
Or assignment is to be visibly manifested around the earth as representatives and agencies of God's presence.

Now lets get to the text!

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it

Matthew 16:18 - This rock Petra's feminine - meaning a collection of rocks to make up a larger rock.
The church is to be made up of lively stones not bricks (tower of babel)
I'm shaped funny, i'm rigid i'm rough, but I belong to God, and when I collectively connect with my brothers and sisters and form the church, Satan doesn't stand a chance!
The church is on the offense. Our objective is to score. Hell is trying to stop us from scoring and there is nothing you can do about it.
Hell cannot win because the battle has already won on the cross.
The gates of hell. The city hall where the rulers sat. IT doesn't stand a chance when we attack. IT prevail against, my life, my family etc.
So imagine if the church doesn't operate the way it's not supposed to. it allows chaos.
