This morning we are continuing our Christmas series Mary’s Christmas: The Christmas Story Through Mary’s Eyes
This series is look at the Christmas story in the eyes of Mary. What she saw and what she went through.
Last week we look at the moment the story started. The moment that Gabriel came to her and said favoured women you will give brith to the Son of God. We saw how scared she was and how she had no idea how this would happen since she was a virgin. This was all part of God’s plan. Mary said yes to the plan and was willing to risk her life to all this to happen. In those days a women found to be pregnant out of marriage could have be stoned or left to find her own way. Mary said yes besides all this. We to must say yes to God’s plans, even if we are afraid.
This morning we will be look at the next about of this story. So if you have your bible go and and turn to Luke 1:39-56. If you do not have your bible you can follow along screen in a few moments.

we have a sense of the cadence and rhythm of her words
words full of robust theology, passionate faith, and dependence upon God
39 In those days Mary set out and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judah
40 where she entered Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth.
41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped inside her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 Then she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and your child will be blessed!
43 How could this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For you see, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped for joy inside me.
45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill what he has spoken to her!”
46 And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 because he has looked with favor on the humble condition of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and his name is holy.
50 His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear him.
51 He has done a mighty deed with his arm; he has scattered the proud because of the thoughts of their hearts;
52 he has toppled the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly.
53 He has satisfied the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he spoke to our ancestors.
56 And Mary stayed with her about three months; then she returned to her home.

Mary went to see if what Gabriel had said was true
She went there because Gabriel told in vs 36 that Elizabeth your relative has conceived in her old age
Mary see the confirmation of the promises of Gabriel

Zechariah did not believe Gabriel about a son

traditionally been called the Magnificat
first of three hymns/song in Luke 1-2
Mary’s responds to Elizabeth with a song
Her song of trust in God’s plan
description of God’s faithfulness to turn the established order of the world upside down.
Her yes to God’s plan is followed by proclaiming God’s no to injustice, oppression, and abuse of power.
The song follows a normal way of Psalms of Thanksgiving.
They also start by thanking God
then stating way one is thankful.

Mary is not merely describing her hopes but is speaking as if the transformation and redemption she is speaking about has already happened: “Mary saw as already accomplished what God would do through her son.

1. Done mighty thing with his arm
2 . distory the proud because of their hearts
removed mighty of the throne and that not just talking about kings. This applies to all of us. If we get mighty and puffed up God will bring us down.
God sents the rich away empty.
All of this point to Jesus and what he did.
Mary knew God’s redemptive plan throughout history well
enough to respond to his call and take her place in the story.
We must understand the Kingdom story to be part of it
just like Mary understood we too must understad
