Matthew 2:11
Matthew 2:11 NKJV
11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Frankincense—a gift for the high priest

Jesus became our High Priest because He did the following work:

1. Conquered all temptations

Jesus faced every temptation I will ever face
Hebrews 4:15 NKJV
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Jesus can conquer my temptations
Hebrews 2:18 NKJV
18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

The weapon He gave us

Was same weapon He used
“It is written”
Written Word of God

2. Addressed Our Sin Issue

High Priest offered up the sacrifice for the sins of the people
Leviticus 16:2–3 NKJV
2 and the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat. 3 “Thus Aaron shall come into the Holy Place: with the blood of a young bull as a sin offering, and of a ram as a burnt offering.
High Priest was to always keep incense burning on incense altar right before Most Holy Place
Exodus 30:7–8 NKJV
7 “Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it. 8 And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations.

Jesus finished completely the work to deal with our sin issue

John 19:30 “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”

3. Made the Throne of Grace Accessible

Jesus is the High Priest who has passed through the heavenlies

Hebrews 4:14
Hebrews 4:14 NKJV
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

Jesus is the “therefore”

Hebrews 4:16
Hebrews 4:16 NKJV
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
