A Promise

Jesus has been born in Bethlehem
it is now 40 days later
and Jesus is brought to the temple
As the first born of Mary He is presented to God
this is the promised Messiah
Isaiah 9:6 LEB
For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
but to Simeon it is the one promised, that he would see
and this one would be the Christ
the savior of the world
Read Luke 2 25-35
Pray

Simeon

not much is known about this man
there is a lot of speculation about him, but we wont go there
Luke 2:25 LEB
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
A man in Jerusalem.
I often thought of him as a priest doing his duties and along comes baby Jesus. but not necessarily
Righteous and devout, a quality not seen very much in Jerusalem
there were a lot of self righteous people
a lot of who were good in their own eyes
but God keeps a remnant of true believers
righteous and devout is first inside, then its cultivated outside
look at the end of the verse
The Holy Spirit is upon him
the question which came first righteous and devout
or the Holy Spirit coming upon him?
Looking for the Hope of the Messiahs coming
The restoration of Israel
the hope of Salvation
Luke 2:26 LEB
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he would see the Lord’s Christ.
the H S told him he would see the Christ
would not see death until he saw the one who conquers death
he goes to death in peace, there is a no longer a terror of death
I bet that Simeon was one of the people who came out of the grave when Jesus died on the cross
Luke 2:27–28 LEB
And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus so that they could do for him according to what was customary under the law, he took him in his arms and praised God and said,
the Holy Spirit led him to the temple, How?
at the exact same moment of Mary and Joseph entering
he took the baby and praised God
Psalm 103:1-6
A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.   Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits;   Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases;   Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;  Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Simeon’s Christmas Carol

Luke 2:29–32 LEB
“Now dismiss your slave in peace, Lord, according to your word. For my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory to your people Israel.”
Sam the sheep dog, Ralph the coyote
punch in at the beginning of the shift, punch out at the end
Simeon has declared the end of his shift
He is done the God given life mission
The word of God has been fulfilled, prophecy has been completed
Jesus the Christ is in his arms
the Savior is born, the looked for Christ has arrived
My savior
You can un-yolk me from this burden of life, now Lord
In peace I can leave this life
according to your word, that I trust in
This salvation was prepared for both Jew and Gentile
a great light in this dark world
Simeon had a great song to sing to end his life
a song of a savior
a song of a promised deliverer
He can now die in peace
he has welcomed the king of Righteousness
the great prophet
the priest of the Most High God
His toil is over, his race is finished

Our Christmas Carol

Joy to the world the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and heav'n and nature sing
we have trusted in your word
have put our faith in Christ
our sins are all taken a-way
Our Judge declared us right
Our Judge declared us right
we’re given, we’re given brand a new life
Joy to the church, at that time
The Father says now go
Receive your bride, fetch her on home
my soul will be at peace,
when I hear that trumpet sound
And Jesus, Jesus calls me home
We’ll be with Him our beloved Lord
in mansions He has made
bring glory to, our Savior , King
the old has passed away
behold all things are new
we’ll live in glory forevermore
a Christmas carol honoring King Jesus
Simeon could trust in God’s word
We too can trust in our Savior, King
