Mark 7:24-37

Theme: The Servant Rejected
Key verse: v.7
37 verses; 806 words
Grade level: 6.3
1. Christ gives Rebuke. vs.1-23
2. Christ gets Results. vs.24-37
Here are the physical RESULTS that are pictures of our salvation.

I. The Result Of Dealing With The Devil. Vs.24-30

We see His appearance. V,24
24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.
but he could not be hid - How does a sinner get saved and hides Jesus?
You ever notice that Jesus is discovered no matter what?
We see her approach. Vs.25-26
25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:
fell at his feet - an act of worship
The Lord still wants us to worship Him!
Did you know that the only verse these words appear in the Bible together it appears “worship” then “praise”.
Psalm 138:2 (AV)
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
She worshipped first, then asked something.
Are you guilty of asking first?
Are you guilty of asking without worshipping?
We see His argument. V.27
27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
To the Jew first and also to the Greek.
We see her argument. V.28
28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.
Most are too “proud“ to beg God and too foolish to wait.
We see His action. V.29
29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
No auditorium, no healing line, no catchers.
We see her action. V.30
30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
Ephesians 2:1–3 (AV)
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
It was us: dead in trespasses and sins.
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
We thought we were kings and queens on the chessboard called life, but we were only pawns.
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
We had a father named Satan.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
“But God”! The greatest intervention of the great God and our Saviour!
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Life comes from the Lord. Life is the making us alive in Christ!
Here are the physical RESULTS that are pictures of our salvation.
I. The Result Of Dealing With The Devil. Vs.24-30

II. The Result Of Dealing With The Deaf. Vs.31-37

The Lord travels. V.31
31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
Jesus moved on without healing one Jew, but He cast the devil out of a gentile woman’s daughter.
There are times when the Lord works on those “outside” that are lost because those “inside” have no faith.
The locals transport. V.32
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
He couldn’t seem to find his way to see Jesus. You know anybody like that? Are you like that?
The Lord talks. Vs.33-34
33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
Jesus spoke and something happened!
If there is no Word of God, there is no move of God!
Romans 10:17 AV
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The loose tongue. V.35
35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
The living testimony. Vs.36-37
36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
The devil possessed man teaches us several things:
He did not seek to be saved, he was sought.
Luke 19:10 (AV)
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
He was taken aside, not to a stage.
Philippians 2:7 (AV)
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
He heard before he ever spoke.
Romans 10:17 (AV)
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
He spake differently than before.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (AV)
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Conclusion:
One of the verses taken out by the modern versions?
Mark 7:16 (AV)
If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
