Intro:

We can never exhaust our worship of Jesus! .....Put it another way.... You will never need to return the Christmas gift God gave to us (Jesus)....
Krystle and I went down memory lane of our childhood Christmases..... and we remembered some of the gifts we received.... some we played with a ton.... some we never could remember...... Maybe that is you too this morning if you were to think back on Christmases past.....
Rageddy Ann Dolls, Pogo Sticks, Electric Train sets, Radio Flyer Wagon, Dick Tracy Detective Kits , Slinky, Magic 8 ball, Matchbox Cars, Barbies, Etch a Sketches, Easy Bake Oven, Tonka, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Video Game Systems - Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Playstation.....etc., Tickle Me Elmo
These toys got our time, attention, and our affection..... but they all were temporary.... All of them will end up fading away and our memory of them will fade as they themselves will one day end up in the trash....BUT
Jesus will always deserve our time, attention and affection.... He is worth all of our worship and we will never run out of ways and reasons to worship HIM!
Year after year, we come to Christmas and we remember Jesus being born.... and year after year we read the same passages, remember the same points.....WHY? We will never be able to exhaust our worship of HIM!
Because of who he is..... EVERY SUNDAY, WE WORSHIP HIM BECAUSE WE CANNOT REACH A LIMIT OF TOO MUCH!
Jesus in his very nature is worthy our praise! In the Christmas narratives we are given 5 names we are going to look at this morning that we could call Jesus because in HIS very nature.... it is who HE is!
1. Son of God
2. Christ - Messiah
3. Lord
4. Jesus
Why go over these names given to us from the Christmas story? Because in these names reveal a glimpse of Jesus to us.... a reason to worship Him!
The incomprehensible God has been made knowable.... He has come to dwell among us.... and there is no exhausting the depth of who he is, yet there is an unending journey of worship of Jesus.
Psalm 145:3 ESV
3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
Job 11:7 ESV
7 “Can you find out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limit of the Almighty?
John 1:14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
You will never run out of reasons to worship Jesus..... God gave these names to Jesus to describe him, but they are also to us a gift. A gift that results in our worship to Jesus!

1. Holy, Son of God

Jesus is God with us we talked about Emmanuel on Christmas EVE (go and watch the Christmas Eve service online.... but Son of God means he is truly God himself!
Luke 1:35 ESV
35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
John 1:1 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Hebrews 1:1–3 (ESV)
3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
Even the Demons believed this to be true of Jesus....
Luke 4:34 ESV
34 “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”
Either Jesus is a liar, lunactic or he is God incarnate! - Made famous to most of us by C.S. Lewis.... but
Rabbi” John Duncan (1796-1870) formulated what he called a “trilemma.” In Colloquia Peripatetica (p. 109) we see Duncan’s argument from 1859-1860, with my numbering added:
Christ either [1] deceived mankind by conscious fraud, or [2] He was Himself deluded and self-deceived, or [3] He was Divine. There is no getting out of this trilemma. It is inexorable.
Matthew 26:63-4
Matthew 26:63–64 ESV
63 But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
The Jews decided that Jesus must be crucified for his statement of himself..... We worship Jesus because it is true!
Colossians 1:15–19 ESV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
Why does this name result in our worship?...... All that Jesus accomplished was done because he was fully God and fully man!
When we think of our humanity....Christ has experienced it sinless.
When we think about his diety....Christ’s sacrifice is seen in its magnitude of Grace and Love!

2. Christ

This is the greek word for Messiah - The Annointed One - The Chosen One...... for God’s saving purpose!..... We expect people, politics, or possessions to be the thing that fixes our lives.... but all of those will not do it! (Even though President Trump thought he was the Chosen One to fix America..... We remain the same America.... he was not this annointed..... Only Jesus can be this Christ.... be this Messiah that the Bible alluded too!
Whether you think Jesus fulfilled over 500 prophecies or 44 or 11..... The OT is clear that this messiah would come....
Be born in Bethlehem to a virgin
Line of abraham, isaac, and jacob, line of david,
Suffer and Die
Bring salvation
The WHOLE BIBLE IS POINTING TOWARDS JESUS BEING THE CHRIST! From Genesis 3 where the serpents head will be crushed to the Lamb of God in the New Heavens and New Earth!
Luke 2:11 ESV
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Because of the glories of David’s reign, David became the prototype of the ideal ruler, and the prophets looked forward to the day when a king like David but even better would rule over God’s people once more (Jer. 23:5; 33:14–15; Zech. 12:8). - Ligonier his rule would establish and maintain permanent peace between God and the king’s loyal subjects.
2 Samuel 7:13–14 ESV
13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men,
Jesus was so much more than the king on the throne of David.....He was the anointed savior of the people… ALL People! Messiah!
Since Gen 3 we were a people that needed saving.....Every time we read the Bible it should elicit excitement that a Savior is coming, or has come or will come again!

3. Lord

This is the phrase that the athlete champions after the great personal accomplishments.... made real popular in the 1980s the Lordship Salvation - Jesus is Your Savior and Your Lord
Luke 2:11 ESV
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Philippians 2:9–11 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
He is a Ruler and authoritative King of your life not just a get out of hell ticket!..... The Holy Spirit helps us confess this truth and helps us obey Jesus as Lord! 1 Corinthians 12:3 (ESV)
Obey Jesus as Lord......
Authority OVER our entire lives....
Owned by Jesus..... His children of His Kingdom!
He is Christ, the LORD!

4. Jesus

Jesus name means the Lord is Salvation. He is our deliverer.... our savior!
Matthew 1:21
21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
John 3:16–17 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Every sin you commit magnifies the Saving power of Jesus!.... Every Sin makes your Salvation better and better! Every Day your worship of Jesus should increase! A never ending supply of forgiveness.... a never ending supply of worship to Jesus!
The hymn “How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds”.... verse 1 and verse 4
How sweet the name of Jesus sounds in a believers ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, and drives away his fear.
Jesus, my Shepherd, Brother, Friend, My Prophet, Priest and King. My Lord, My life, My way, My End.... Accept the praise I bring.
1 John 1:9 ESV
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
