Introduction
The title of our message this morning is:
A New Year of Opportunities, Hopes, And Dreams!
With every New Year comes new “Opportunities”
I - Opportunities
What is so important about Opportunities?
To Learn.
An appropriate or favorable time or occasion (ex.
Their meeting afforded an opportunity to exchange views).
Going aback to school is a great opportunity to update your skills)
Reach a Goal.
a situation or condition favorable for attainment of a goal
Good Position.
a chance for advancement or success.
New Year Resolutions #1 “Take Time for What Really Matters.”
Get up early in order to read your Bible and pray before entering the day, make more time for your family.
Start exercising and eating right.
Take better care of your body; its God’s temple.
1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV)
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Transition
Opportunities are gateways to our wants and Hopes ...
II - Hopes
What is so important about Hopes?
Jessie says “Keep Hope Alive” !!
Hope is. a feeling of what is wanted can be had ( or events will turn out for the best)
Psalm 33:20 (NKJV)
20 Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.
1 Thessalonians 2:19
Here's another example of hope
Craig Richard Coley (born June 1947) was wrongfully convicted of a double murder in Los Angeles, California, and spent 39 years in jail.
He was pardoned by the governor of California in 2017 because DNA testing, wasn’t available at his original trial.
Police, D.A. ask for forgiveness of 70 year old Craig Coley
Who on Jan 3, 1980 sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole, for murdering his former girlfriend and 4 year old son
He spent 39 years of His Life In prison
Coley was pardoned Nov. 22 by Gov Jerry Brown
New Year Resolutions #2 “Tackle One Thing At a Time.”
Taking on too many things at once dilutes your focus and makes it harder to stick with things.
When you start too much, you finish too little.
So start where you are and build on your successes
by mastering and maintaining one thing at a time.
Transition
Hope is looking unto the Lord to fulfill our deepest desires and Dreams ...
III - Dreams
Martin Luther King said: “I have a Dream”
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of the character ... I have a dream
What is so important about Dreams?
Both Martin Luther King and Joseph dreams were for the future ..
In the last days, God will poor out his Spirit ...
New Year Resolutions #3 “Start Small”
Don’t try to swallow the whole enchilada in one bite;
baby steps are the name of the game.
Talk in terms of what you will do instead of what you won’t.
For example, instead of saying, “I’m not going to be so critical,”
Try saying, “today I’m going to look for something good in everyone I meet”
Maybe when you were growing up you may heard words like you'll never amount to anything.
This coming year we will change that mindset and give you new mind for a new time
Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Because you are faithful this morning, I’m going to give another Resolution
New Year Resolutions #4 “Record Your Progress or Lack of It
