Romans 6:14 (KJV 1900)
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
American slavery was one of the most horrific forms of slavery done to fellow human beings from Africa.
According to the history channel over 12.5 million Africans were taken against their will and shipped to America.
Over 2 million of our ancestors died by drowning, diseases, and murder during the transatlantic passages. Likewise, many of the women were raped by the ship crew.
In 1619, the first ships landed in the United States, and many of our ancestors were sold like cattle and become the property of slave owners.
It was not Jan 1, 1863, that the Emancipation Proclamation officially freed the slaves. However, many slaves were not aware that they were legally free for the cruelty of slavery.
Likewise, many believers are unaware that they are free from the bondage of sin and sinful nature. This problem was true in Paul’s day and it is still a problem today.
A lot of believers fail to take advantage of the Emancipation of the sinful nature that was given to us by the blood of Jesus. He died that we may live.
Romans 6:15 (KJV 1900)
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
We are no longer under the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2
Romans 8:2 KJV 1900
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
We are under grace; the law of the Spiri of life supersedes the law the of sin and death. Just as the law of lift supersedes the law of gravity. The spirit of grace empower us to rise above the slavery of the carnal nature. The of grace is the Holy Ghost.
Acts 1:8 KJV 1900
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Zechariah 12:10 KJV 1900
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, The spirit of grace and of supplications: And they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, And they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, And shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
Grace is a gift that has been poured on us; Ask God to pour His Spirit on you!
The Holy Ghost makes gives us the POWER to yield to things of God and not the flesh.
Grace gives us the freedom to God’s will. Grace should be abused or taken for granted. Rely on the Spirit of Grace to help you, comfort you and empower you.
Romans 6:16 (KJV 1900)
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Some slaves wanted their freedom and wanted to keep serving their masters; however, they were never truly free because the system was rigged against them.
Likes some people want to serve God and sinful nature. This is not possible, therefore we must make a choice.
Joshua 24:15 KJV 1900
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
1 Corinthians 10:21 KJV 1900
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
James 1:8 KJV 1900
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Romans 6:17 (KJV 1900)
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Like the slave took advantage of their freedom by leaving the slave master.
You take advantage of your emancipation by your obedience to God’s teaching.
Romans 6:18 (KJV 1900)
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
As believers in Christ, we serve a new Master that empowers us, loves us, and wants the best for us.
The old master just wanted to kill, steal, destroy.
Our new Master come to give us life and life and more abundantly.
Romans 6:19 (KJV 1900)
I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
Holiness is right- Pursue and yield to holiness
Hebrews 12:14 KJV 1900
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Romans 6:20 (KJV 1900)
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
Before we received Christ we were slaves to sin; we were unable to stop sinning. Now we are empowered to flee sin and live right.
Romans 6:21 (KJV 1900)
What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
Romans 6:22 KJV 1900
