What distracts you?

Luke 10:38–42 ESV
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Why is Martha so upset with Mary?
Is it bad to be Martha?
Why did Jesus react the way he did?
What should we be doing?
Why is Martha so upset with Mary?
Jesus had history with this family.
It is believed that the Mary of this story is the Mary who anointed his feet with oil.
This is also the Mary and Martha who had a brother named Lazarus.
Lazarus was raised from the dead and they described Lazarus as the one whom Jesus loved.
Having Jesus in their home was a big deal.
Luke 10:39 ESV
And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.
Luke 10:40 ESV
But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”
Philippians 4:8 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
