The Believers Worship

Colossians 3:12-17
Authentic / Real worship
Honors God - Glorifies God - Magnifies God - Worship God - And Sacrifice unto God
Everything we do & say
Must be about Him
Most believers
Don’t really have a biblical
Idea of what worship
Really is to God
First of all
You have to have a Personal relationship
With Jesus to be able
To worship the Father
And secondly
You have to have
A lifestyle that lines up
With God’s Word - Will - Ways
To worship God — Worship is a LIFESTYLE
WORSHIP
Comes from to words
WORTH & SHIP
Your worship to God
Is on the basis of
How much God is WORTH to you
John 4:23-24
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth
[ Truth — means not hiding nothing ]
God is so serious
About worship
To where He tells us
What to do with each member
Of our body
Eyes - Psalms 121:1 1  I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help.2 My help cometh from the Lord, Which made heaven and earth.
Ears - Matthew 11:15 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Mind - Phil. 2:5 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Heart - Romans 10:9-10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Hands - Ecc. 9:10 10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Knees - Phil. 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of ethings in heaven, and ethings in earth, and fthings under the earth;
Feet - Hebrews 12:1 12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
The rest of my body - Romans 12:1 12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Note: God tells us how He wants to be WORSHIP
So Paul
Wants this church
At Colosse to understand
That you have to live a life
That represent your NEW BIRTH
5 Births in the Bible
1st. Soil Birth
Gen. 2:7 - God formed man from the dust, that’s soil birth
2nd. Surgical Birth
Gen. 2:21-22 - God put Adam to sleep took a rib from him and made woman, that’s surgical birth
3rd. Sack Birth
Gen. 4 — After Adam knew Eve and pregnant her she brought forth Cain & Abel and sat in a sack. Every woman there after every time she get pregnant they care a baby in a sack, that’s sack Birth
4th. Savior Birth
Matthew 1:18-25 — The Holy Spirit came upon a virgin named Mary and brought forth the Savior of the world, that’s the Savior’s birth
5th. Saints Birth
1st. Peter 2:9 — God took us out of darkness brought us into His marvelous light, that’s the saints birth
So Paul wants us
To live like those
Who have been brought
Out of darkness
Into His marvelous light
Explain Colossians Chapter 3
Colossians was written by the Apostle Paul
To whom was it written
Paul was writing
To the church at Colosse
Epaphras had founded the church
The church was made up
Mostly of Gentiles
Who were influenced
By a “ vain philosophy “
Gnosticism ( 2:8-10 )
Legalism ( 2:11-17 )
Mysticism ( 2:18-19 )
Asceticism(as-cet-i-cism) ( 2:20-23 ) — the practice of strict self denial as a measure of personal and especially spiritual discipline.
Why was it written
Paul desired to show the Colossians their completeness in Christ ( Chapter 1 )
Paul wanted to lead believers into spiritual maturity ( Chapter 2:1-17 )
Paul design was to counter the gnostic-like, legalistic, mystical heresy in the church
( 2:18-23 )
Paul desire to teach about our new life in Christ ( Chapter 3:1-4:6 )
Paul wanted to inform them about his state of affairs ( Chapter 4:7-18 )
What is it about - The Theme
Completion in Christ
The emphasis is on the eminence and sufficiency of Christ as the believers completeness in Christ
Verse 12
Mercies — compassions
Kindness — benevolence
Humbleness of mind — a lowly attitude towards God
Meekness — gentleness
Long-suffering — patience
Verse 13
Forbearing — to endure something unpleasant or difficult whether on one's own behalf or on behalf of someone else
Forgiving
Quote: “ You can’t hate someone you’re PRAYING for “
Verse 14
Love — ( agape )
Paul is saying
Love should be
Your OUTTER GARMENT
For all the above that we do
Verse 15
Peace of God/Christ
There’s Peace with God
&
There’s Peace of God
Rule — Control over every area of your life
Example: When you invite me over to your house you tell me make myself comfortable
but that don’t mean for me to go in every area of your house. But that’s what
the Peace of God does, goes in every area of your life.
———————————————————————————————————————
The Peace of God brings unity
But the Peace of God also
Does what is RIGHT
When you are done WRONG
And be thankful — An attitude of gratitude contributes to an enjoyment of spiritual tranquility, whereas grumbling makes for inner agitation.
Verse 16
The word of Christ dwell richly — God’s written Word, are to dwell in believers. That is, by study, meditation, and application of the Word, it becomes a permanent abiding part of one’s life
Quote: “ A devoted life is from a devotional life “
Example:
Viscosity is in motor oil
And viscosity
Keeps the different parts
Of the motor lubricated
And if you don’t change
Your motor oil regularly
The viscosity breaks down
And don’t keep
The engine lubricated
So that’s why
You HAVE TO change
Your oil ON SCHEDULE
Your oil in your vehicle
Can be at the right level
Having the right amount
But if the oil is old
In your vehicle
And the viscosity
Has been broken down
In the oil
The oil is not keeping
The engine lubricated
And for this reason
You can burn your motor up
Well
Having a devotional life
Keeps YOU LUBRICATED —
For the PROBLEMS, CIRCUMSTANCES, TRIALS, TROUBLES, TRIBULATIONS & SITUATIONS in your life
Example: The old sisters would say Trust God but today people got serious problems and it’s going to take some WORD.
A devotional life
Can have you
Like Psalms 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
V1Separated from the World
V2Satisfied with the Word
V3Situated by the Waters
Verse 16
Psalms - Hymns - Spiritual songs
psalms — Old Testament psalms put to music, the early church sang the Psalms.
hymns — songs of praise distinguished from the Psalms which exalted God, in that they focused on the Lord Jesus Christ.
spiritual songs — songs of personal testimonies
Verse 17
17— And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
