THE REALITY OF ANGELS

The spirit world is a hot topic today. The supernatural: angels, ghosts, spirits and demons.
The new age religion and pop culture has popularized them, and they are common topics in our popular media and entertainment.
The supernatural realm has become big business, and has spawned tv shows and movies.
Nearly as often as they are depicted in our culture, they are depicted wrongly.
However, our cultural view of angles has shaped our (wrong) understanding of them more effectively than the church has represented the truth about them.
Angels are real, and we will separate fact from fiction, as we move through this study of angels.
During this study, our single authority will be the Bible.
Angels are mentioned 273 times in Scripture. Christ, Himself, testifies to their reality.
Mark 13:32
Mark 13:32 NKJV
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
But what are angels?
Angel means messenger, and we will see how they fulfill that role in a number of different ways.
Our victorian view of angels as women with feathery wings and halos, is 100% wrong! (This will be seen later in the study.)
Our common belief that people become angels when they die, is also wrong.
Angels are not ghosts, there is no such thing as a disembodied spirit (human) roaming the earth.

Angels are created beings, separate and apart from humanity.

Nehemiah 9:6
Nehemiah 9:6 NKJV
You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.
Hebrews 2:16
Hebrews 2:16 NKJV
For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.

Angels are innumerable.

Hebrews 12:22
Hebrews 12:22 NKJV
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,

Angels were created during the six day creation

Many people believe and teach that angels were created long long before God ever created the earth.
Job 38:4-7
Job 38:4–7 NKJV
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
We see from the following Scripture, that the angels had to have been created during the 6 day creation period.
Genesis 1:1
Genesis 1:1 NKJV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Exodus 20:11
Exodus 20:11 NKJV
For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
Exodus 31:17
Exodus 31:17 NKJV
It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ”
Not only does the Scripture not leave any room for creation prior to this 6 day period, if there were some prior creation, it wouldn't truly be the beginning.

Angels are not to be worshipped.

Exodus 20:3-4
Exodus 20:3–4 NKJV
“You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
Colossians 2:18
Colossians 2:18 NKJV
Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Revelation 19:10
Revelation 19:10 NKJV
And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Revelation 22:8-9
Revelation 22:8–9 NKJV
Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
As fascinating as angels may be, they are but a part of God's creation, and we must not worship them as many have done.
To understand the true nature of angels, will prevent any false glorification of them.
They are part of God's creation, and they testify to His greatness!
COMMUNION
1 Corinthians 11:23–28 NKJV
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
