Jesus Cleanses the Temple

13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” 18 So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
Jesus Knows What Is in Man
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. 24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people 25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. 2016. Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
The purging of the temple … signifies the destruction and replacement of the system of religious observance of which the temple was the centre” Now Christ is to be the center of our lives.

The believer lives in reverence.

The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Proverbs 9:9  Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. 10  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Pr 9:9–10.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13

The believer lives under Christ’s authority.

If you wish to know what a man is, place him in authority. Yugoslav proverb
Christ is the head of the church.
Colossians 1:15  He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Col 1:15–20.

The believer lives in expectation.

The believer lives in expectation of of not just the future, but also the present.
The church needs to be heavily involved in the present expectations of his goodness. There is a world that is lost and we should expect his grace and mercy to be moving in this present age.
This expectation is a call to action!

Jesus knows people.

In this knowing he shows his worthiness of being brought glory.
Psalm 6:4–5 ESV
Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise?
