God is on His throne!
This brings a mixture of feelings throughout our world.
Joy for those who are doing right and fear for those who are not.
We who are on the Lord’s side are very excited that He is in control!
We know He is good, merciful and kind.
We know that the Prince and Power of this world is vicious, deceitful and hateful.
So this Psalm brings joy to our heart at the reminder that He is Good, and He is in control!
I.
The Lord Reigns
1-6
His reign brings various results to us and those around us:
A. Brings Joy

It is joyful knowing that God has it under control.
He is the creator of the world, and he knows the beginning and the end.
B. Brings Presence

To these recipients of this Psalms, the Israelites, the picture of clouds and darkness bring to their mind the pillar of smoke in wilderness.
The clouds round about him was a symbol and a token of His presence.
We have His presence in an even more real way today.
C. Brings Righteousness

Righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.
The word habitation is the word maw·kone - translated habitation, but also in other locations foundation.
Literally means :1 fixed or established place, foundation.
The very foundation of his rule, His sovereignty is His righteousness.
He will always do the right thing!

The other foundation of his throne is judgment

He doesn’t need our help, and yet He has told us to proclaim the truth about Him.
We are to proclaim the truth that the Lord reigns.

the unbelief and lawlessness that grip our society, the Lord reigns
whatever we may be forced to endure, the Lord reigns
The Lord—Yahweh, Jehovah—is God, and He will forever reign in righteousness and holiness.
This means that His judgment of all unbelievers is sure.
Knowing that, we need to proclaim the truth about God’s holiness, about His righteousness and judgment.
We need to point people to the God of the Bible:
a God who loves humanity so much that He gave His only Son for our sins
but who is also just—a consuming fire.
All who reject Him will suffer the full measure of His fierce wrath.
II.
The Heathen Shamed
7-9
Now the Psalmist turns to those who are trusting in idols
He issues some very serious warnings
He says they will all be shamed -the word confounded
Boosh - Hebrew word meaning ashamed.
He warns them …

Idolatry goes far beyond just a man made image that is worshiped.

Now he speaks to the demonic forces behind idolatry, or false gods.

Jerusalem heard about God’s ruling and His dealings with the heathen and they were glad.
