Intro: Welcome my Friends
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 5:1-6 “And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
Sermon Title: Kingdom Building
Joke: Holy Medical Insurance             Mr. Smith was brought to Mercy Hospital  (a Catholic hospital), and taken quickly in for coronary surgery. The operation went well and, as the groggy man regained consciousness, he was reassured by a Sister of Mercy, who was waiting by his bed. "Mr. Smith, you're going to be just fine," said the nun, gently patting his hand. "We do need to know, however, how you intend to pay for your stay here. Are you covered by insurance?" "No, I'm not," the man whispered hoarsely. "Then can you pay in cash?" persisted the nun. "I'm afraid I cannot, Sister." "Well, do you have any close relatives?" the nun questioned sternly. "Just my sister in New Mexico," he volunteered. "But she's a humble, spinster nun." "Oh, I must correct you, Mr. Smith. Nuns are not spinsters - they are married to God." "Wonderful," said Mr. Smith. "In that case, please send the bill to my brother-in-law."

Bible Text : Matthew 5:1-2 “And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
It is called sermon on the mount because it was taught on a hillside near Capernaum.
This teaching went on probably around 7 days
Jesus was teaching that God wanted sincere obedience not ceremonial religion.
It challenged the teaching of the proud legalistic leaders.
The most well-known portion of the Sermon on the Mount is known as the Beatitudes (5:3–10).
These are a series of blessings promised to those who exhibit the attributes of God’s Kingdom. The Beatitudes•
*present a code of ethics for the disciples and a standard of conduct for all believers,•
*contrast Kingdom values (what is eternal) with worldly values (what is temporary),•
* contrast the superficial “faith” of the Pharisees with the real faith that Christ wants, and•
*show how the future Kingdom will fulfill Old Testament expectations.
The Sermon on the amount
Cross Reference: Matthew 7:29 “for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”
1st Point: Jesus Speaks Listen
One Application: We often read the red print in the bible because this is where Jesus speaks. We are to picture us being one of the disciples getting our marching orders to what to DO next not to just to LISTEN to.
Personal Story: I remember growing up in a Catholic family. It was about doing all of these ceremonial religious acts. I didnt know about this relationship with Jesus.
So many churches preach on what to do and tell us with great exortation. But no one is showing us by teaching us!
We need to be taught

Bible Text : Matthew 5:3-4 ““Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
V.3 Poor in Spirit
“God blesses those who realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is given to them.” Only those who humbly depend on God are admitted into the Kingdom of Heaven.
We must know that we are dirty ole sinners and we need a Savior
V.4 Who Mourn
This is having that humility - After knowing how much you are a sinner.
Then we see our unworthiness before God
Whether if we mourn for our sin or in our suffering. God promises that He will comfort us.
Cross Reference:
2nd Point: Kingdom of Heaven is near, So be comforted
One Application: We should be sitting before God with our spirit feeling empty because of our sin, which should cause a time of mourning before the King.
God knows our heart and He will comfort us
Personal Story:
When my dad went to the hospital for Coivid,
I was getting lots of bad thoughts through my head.
I found myself just feeling filthy before the Lord. I would take my morning walks. This is when God would comfort me

Bible Text : Matthew 5:5-6 “Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
v. 5 - meek
God blesses the gentle and lowly - for the whole earth belongs to them.
God will one day freely give his true disciples what they did not grasp for themselves on earth.
v.6 Hunger & Thirst
The words hungry and thirsty picture intense longings that people desire to satisfy—necessities that they cannot live without
Having a hunger to have no more sin.
God will completely satisfy spiritual hunger and thirst.
Cross Reference: Revelation 21:1-6 “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.”
3rd Point: That this is not our home
One Application: We can all take heart that we are all pilgrims just passing by. We are not get comfortable or lose heart of the discomfort. Because we will be home soon. No matter how good the world may throw our way. There is still no place like home
