THE FAITH SERIES (5 of 5)
H is for Heaven
Bobby Earls, First Baptist Icard, August 5, 2001
KEY QUESTION: In your personal opinion, what do you understand it takes for a person to go to heaven?
F is for FORGIVENESS
We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God’s forgiveness. In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Ephesians 1:7a NKJV
A is for AVAILABLE
God’s forgiveness is available. It is available for all.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 NKJV
God’s forgiveness is available for all, but not automatic.
Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 7:21a NKJV
I is for IMPOSSIBLE
It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven. GOD IS…. LOVE John 3:16
JUST James 2:13a “for judgment is without mercy.”
MAN IS SINFUL
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23
Question: How can a sinful person enter heaven, where God allows no sin?
The T in FAITH is for TURN. Question: If you were driving down the road and someone asked you to turn, what would he or she be asking you to do? (Change Direction) Turn means REPENT.
Turn also can mean to TRUST CHRIST ONLY
Turn from SOMETHINGSIN AND SELF
“But unless you repent you will all likewise perish” Luke 13:3
Turn to SOMEONETRUST CHRIST ONLY
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
H is for HEAVEN
One of the most meaningful doctrines of our faith is that God, who lives in a place called Heaven, desires each one of us to join Him there for all time and eternity. And who can describe Heaven? It is beyond human words and human descriptions. But we do know that it is a place of perfect beauty, and complete holiness, a place of joy, and peace, and tranquility.
Imagine if you can the most beautiful place on this planet you have ever seen. Maybe it is a majestic mountain, or a sandy white beach, a tropical island, or a quite lake, a snowy field or a spring morning. But try as you may, our grandest life experiences or our wildest imagination cannot compare to the glory God has prepared for those who trust Him.
But Heaven is more than a place in the sweet by and by. The bible describes Heaven as eternal life.
Heaven is ETERNAL LIFE.
Heaven (or eternal life) is both HERE and HEREAFTER.
HERE
“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
HEREAFTER
“ I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:3)
HOW
How can a person have God’s forgiveness, heaven and eternal life, and Jesus as personal Savior and Lord?
Explain using the leaflet “A Step of Faith.”
F.A.I.T.H. (Forsaking All I Trust Him). Romans 10:9 If you will confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved!
Say at this time, “Understanding what we have shared, would you like to receive this forgiveness by trusting in Christ as your personal Savior and Lord?
Lead the person in a prayer for salvation.
