HOW TO FACE TRIALS
Genuine JOY
Thank you guys for joining us @ Fit 2 Serve
Today we are going to look at the book of James, and how genuine Joy shows maturity in our walk.
Babies first words
We are going to look at James 1:1-4
The title of your notes today is Genuine JOY
We are going to see how we can count it all joy as we fall into trials
If you are taking Notes: 3 Way’s to have Genuine JOY
LET”S READ
James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad:
Greetings.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces [a]patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be [b]perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
BACKGROUND
a. James: There are several men named James mentioned in the New Testament, but this is the the half-brother of Jesus (Matthew 13:55) and the brother of Jude (Jude 1), who led the church in Jerusalem (Acts 15:13).
i. Other men mentioned in the Bible named James include:
· James, brother of John and son of Zebedee, the first apostle martyred and also known as James the Less (Matthew 10:2, Mark 15:40, Acts 12:2).
· James the son of Alphaeus, another of the twelve disciples (Matthew 10:3).
· James, the father of the “other” apostle Judas (Luke 6:16).
ii. The writer of this letter is the same James who received a special resurrection appearance of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:7). This was probably the cause of his conversion, because up to that time the brothers of Jesus seemed unsupportive of His message and mission (John 7:5).
iii. An early history of the church says that James was such a man of prayer that his knees had large and thick calluses, making them look like the knees of a camel.
It also says that James was martyred in Jerusalem by being pushed from a high point of the temple. Yet the fall did not kill him, and on the ground he was beaten to death, even as he prayed for his attackers.
1.James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
Bondservant - Willing slave, one to serve because he wanted to
James didn’t mention that he was his brother of Jesus
I would of put Brother of james on the end
Story : Could you imagine being the younger brother of Jesus growing up?
To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad:
This is a figure of speech referring to the jewish people
Paul referred to our twelve tribes in his speech before King Agrippa (Acts 26:7).
This book is written to Christian believers
Greetings.

Profiting from Trials

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
He said when, not if you fall into various trials.
At the same time trials are occasions for joy, not to be discouraged by them.
2007; Story about having power turned off
We can count it all joy in the midst of trials because they are used to produce patience.
APP: We have a phrase that we live by in the Gym that says….Get Comfortable with the Uncomfortable.
Anyone can have joy when they are comfortable, but do you find joy in the discomfort?
I love seeing Pastors come into our gym that find a little discomfort in the physical, this allows us to practice in the spiritual.
This brings us to our first point to having Genuine Joy
Get Comfortable with The Uncomfortable
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
If trials do not produce faith, what does?
Romans 10:17 tells us: So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Supernaturally, faith is built in us as we hear, understand, and trust in God’s word.
James did not want anyone to think that God sends trials to break down or destroy our faith; therefore, he will come back to this point in James verses 13-18.
c. Trials don’t produce faith, but when trials are received with faith, it produces patience.
Yet patience is not inevitably produced in times of trial. If difficulties are received in unbelief and grumbling, trials can produce bitterness and discouragement. This is why James exhorted us to count it all joy. Counting it all joy is faith’s response to a time of trial.
STORY: JORGE VS WES…...BURPEE
This brings us to our second point to having Genuine Joy
Receive Trials with faith / it produces patience
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be [perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
The work of patient endurance comes slowly and must be allowed to have full bloom. Patient endurance is a mark of the person who is perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Some comments
To boring
Lost its shine
To long
v. Yet, trials can prove a wonderful work of God in us. “I have looked back to times of trial with a kind of longing, not to have them return, but to feel the strength of God as I have felt it then, to feel the power of faith, as I have felt it then, to hang upon God’s powerful arm as I hung upon it then, and to see God at work as I saw him then.” (Spurgeon)
This brings us to our Third point to having Genuine Joy
3 the journey is much sweeter than the arival
James 1:5-8
Facing Trials with Prayer
Thank you guys for joining us @ Fit 2 Serve
Today we are going to look at the book of James,
and how to Face Trials With Prayer
JOKE

A priest, a doctor, and an engineer play golf.

A priest, a doctor, and an engineer are out playing a round of golf. Partway through their game, they realize that the group in front is taking forever to move through the course. Frustrated, they ask the groundskeeper what's going on. The groundskeeper, visibly emotional, says:
"Well, I'm afraid the reason that group is a bit slow is that they are, in fact, a trio of blind firefighters. You see, last month they saved the clubhouse from a blaze and lost their vision in the accident. To show our thanks, we let them play for free whenever they'd like."
The priest replies: "My that's terrible! I'll be sure to say a prayer for them."
"What a tragedy!" says the Doctor, "I'll see if I can help them with their treatment."
After a moment of quiet, the Engineer finally speaks:
"Well for goodness sake, why can't they just play at night?"
We are going to look at James 1:5-8
The title of your notes will be Facing Trials With Prayer
We all FAce Trials So we can decide to Face them with God or the World
If you are taking Notes: 3 Ways how to pray during Trials
story
Remember in 2 Corinthians 12, the Apostle Paul had a thorn in his side and asked God 3 x to take it away…….., but God said
my Grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness
The Book of James is Applied Christiananity
Its not just Theory it is taking what you know and applying it into practice
LET”S READ
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
We often dont know we need wisdom until a time of difficulty
Would you agree In Trials……..we need Wisdom…….
more than we need …….Knowledge?
Knowledge is RAw info...But Wisdom is how to use it
Someone said that Knowledge is the ability to take something apart,
And wisdom is the ability to put something together..
SO if we need wisdom, dont look at self help book, read stories in magazines and go to seminars
Ask the almighty God…He has His arms Wide Open
Story
Point # 1.
Pray that God would teach you what He wants you to learn
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
Our request for wisdom must be like any other request in FAITH
With no Doubting
We must have faith that God is working all things together for good.
Not just asking and then giving up on God and then moving on.
A wave of the sea- is unstable - and so is the doubter
A wave of the sea- Driven by the winds - and so is the doubter
A wave of the sea- is capable of great destruction - and so is the doubter
That reminds me of the story
I remember in 2008 we lost everything,
I was very unstable
And I moved right into destruction
Lost a lot of Real Estate
It was the best humbling experience that set my calling in place
To Serve God and no other God
Point #2
2.Pray God would make you humble
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
To ask God, but to ask Him in a doubting way is double minded
If we had no faith we would never ask at all
If we had no unbelief we would have no doubting
To be in the middle ground of Faith & Unbelief is
Double Minded
That reminds me of a story
When I was in my early 20s I was in the world during the week, and on Sunday I was in the church.
I couldnt give everything up that the flesh was pleased with
