Spiritual Gifts - To Each is Given as the Spirit Wills for the Common Good.

Title of this morning's message. Is spiritual gifts. spiritual gifts to each is given as the spirit Wills. For the common good. Spiritual gifts to each is given as the spirit Wills for the common good for 1st, Corinthians 12. 1 through 11, at least that is the the focus of today's message will be throughout that entire section of 1st Corinthians.

And as you know, for the most part, for the most part, if you're wondering why I were in 1st Corinthians this morning, you know, for the most part that Revival church, we preach through books of the Bible. and Brian and I are in the midst of Preaching to the book of Hebrews and we will return there shortly. We Will Turner shortly after a short pause because we we also believe we are not just to Simply preaching books of the Bible, for the purpose of preaching, to the books of the Bible, and if the Lord leads us in another direction for time, And it seems clear that he has. We will preach on something else for time and we've done this before.

So, it's clear to us to do that as Elders. We Do it. That's what we're doing. It's become clear that I should preach a short series of messages on 1st Corinthians, 12 through 14, 12 through 14, primarily primarily teaching on spiritual gifts. Starts today. And as I said, this is today's message is an introduction in a setup for what's to come. You should also know and I will explain more as we go. But this is also part of something bigger larger or a larger discussion. That's been happening in the church.

Most of you also know that this church was and still is built over time with people of many different previous Church background in many different previous theological backgrounds. Which makes this next statement of utmost importance. One of the core principles of this church directly from statement number one, of our statement of faith. We believe the Bible is the word of God.

Fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. And that it the word of God God's spoken, God's revealed word in the Bible in the scriptures to us. Has supreme authority, supreme authority over all matters of faith and conduct. The word of God has the supreme authority in all matters of our life. Your faith in our conduct. And church this includes, maybe especially includes our conduct when we gather together to worship this. God in faith. we and I hope each of you desire to live your life by faith and That we would structure our church and worship Our God in our gathering. Exactly? As God would have us do. So. And therefore we also desire to do so by the spirit. We must never forget. We must never forget that the same spirit that inspired the word of God, is the spirit who empowers us as the truth to do anything of significance to the glory of God.

Say that again this Same Spirit that inspired the word of God. The same spirit, is the spirit who empowers us as the Church of God to do anything significant to the glory of God. The Holy Spirit tells us in the word that he will gift us. Freely, give us.

The church. These spiritual gifts. He tells us we should desire them in our hearts. And we should practice them. In the proper order that the same Spirit himself has prescribed for us to practice them in his word. I hope you see the full circle there. That's a live. By the word is to live by the spirit and to live by the spirit is to live by the word.

So it is never quenching the spirit to live by the word of God never. Is that Spirit inspired the word of God?

The inverse is true. However, to not live by the word. To have the opposite of what the word would say to live outside of the way, the word wood. Command has to live. Is not to live by the spirit because the spirit and the word are always always in agreement.

Jesus in John 4, verses 23 and 24, but the hour is coming. And now is here. When the true worshippers will worship the father in spirit and Truth. For the father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit. And those who worship Him must. Worship in spirit and Truth. And if we're honest, it is often our tendency or a Church's tendency to lean one way or the other.

Go to church without the holy spirit is not a church. A church quenching. The spirit is in danger of becoming man-powered religiosity.

The church that does not properly honor and glorify and teach. All of the entire word of God as true. Buy a biblically qualified elders. And does not live. By the way, the word orders us is in danger. I'm living by a week or false gospel. Or following the wrong spirit. As we know for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of Light, second Corinthians, 11:14. And so this must be said at the beginning of a series, like this. Because I know. Some of y'all may not know, but I know there are some of you in here on both sides of the spectrum.

And it becomes such a hindrance to even hear truth from the word about certain topics.

Some of you will become very nervous or turn off your ears. When I speak of gifts, especially say words like prophecy or tongues. Some of you will become very nervous or turn off your ears when I speak the order. God has prescribed to practice those. And say words like keep silent or head coverings. So we should all examine our hearts before we start. Because all of these concepts are in the Bible and interest in Lee, they are interconnected.

And God tells us all of these things, explicitly and simply. At least in the ways he wants us to understand them. Is there mystery? There? Sure is? But because he says no service again for both of these topics, the order of practicing the gifts and the gifts themselves for both of them. The word of God says, I want you to understand. So, we should study now. And I also know, without without a doubt, hear me, say this, without a doubt, much of what is called or self-proclaimed to be a Spirit, Led Church. The Spirit Led Church, much of that is an abuse of or a misuse of the spiritual gifts. With a loss of focus on the word of God. Or the improper ordering of the church, when practicing those gifts and therefore it is unbiblical. We have no right to practice the worship of God, in a way different than the way God has provided and commanded us to practice the worship of himself.

So, I challenge each of you, as I have challenged myself. This should be an exciting time for our church.

And in a church, that is led by biblically qualified Elders, committed fully committed to the word of God.

We are starting something that God says he wants us to understand.

I see God's hand in this and his timing over this.

And with all of these topics that are interconnected.

From head coverings to submission in order from prophecy to Miracles and tongs. With all of these, their can most definitely be misused or false teaching. Or taking things Beyond with the Bible. Says, going outside of the word for answers. I acknowledge that happens. But we need to see something else. We need to see something. In these chapters, you hear me? Say this multiple times.

Paul at the beginning of chapter 11 commends, the Corinthians for the way. They're practicing head coverings, but then he corrects even admonishes, their practice of communion.

And then he needs to refine at least or we focus the way they're practicing the spiritual gifts. When it comes to communion in chapter 11 somewhere, getting drunk. Off the communion wine.

Some, in that church had been previously, what we would call alcoholics drunkards.

Come or improperly, taking the communion wine. And Paul does not say. Stop. Doesn't say change the way you're practicing these things. What did he do? He reminds them. Why they practice the practice, teaches Emy, corrects him. And then he encourages them to go do it correctly. The way that God has commanded. When it comes to the gifts, it seems like they were practicing them with some Order of Chaos happening in their gatherings. A tongues may have been being spoken without an interpreter present. Seems maybe many people were coming up with a prophecy or tongues and and it was no order as to how those things were happening. And yet, Paul does not say stop.

Why doesn't say, let's just stop, doing those couple things. Those are secondary theological issues. He doesn't say that.

Doesn't say you and corns. Can stop them later because later, you won't be an Apostolic church anymore. Didn't say that.

Paul tells this church in Corinth and us. He says, here's why you practice these things. Here's how to order your Gatherings to practice these things.

and when they happen, Judge them. Be sure they are from God.

And do all of this in the very order. God has commanded, they be done. That's his protection. That's Grace.

They have been a bit off in their practice. He doesn't tell them put up throttle on using the gifts. That's not what he says. History says quite the opposite. He tells them to eagerly. He's really go after them. He says, do not forbid. go after them eagerly, but with proper order or dumped.

The order that God gives to all of the churches to practice these gifts. So why are we studying these gifts? Now? Why now? Somebody, you know, for a time we had a space in our services at I'm in our services where people can share. But then questions arose, and it became clear. We should examine this practice. To be sure it was as God would have his church practice such a thing. We took a step back for a time to study to pause. To make sure we were not the Corinthians that we didn't need correction.

Been much, much study, much study and prayer over these issues. It also in that conversation and because of the woke craziness happening at the world at the time in the world, the confusion. So we did a series of manhood and Womanhood.

Which included biblical manhood and Womanhood in the church, which included biblical manhood and Womanhood in the Gathering of the church? And so in that teaching, we saw that the Bible, clearly teaches that it is biblically qualified men who are to be the elders are pastors of every true local church.

So much so that I think, I believe, if you ask the Apostle Paul based on what he says, if you ask the Apostle, Paul, if something was a church or when it became a church, or if it was true church. It seems the first question Paul would ask is, do they have multiple biblically qualified men leading them as pastors or elders.

If the answer to that was no, he would likely say no. So we saw on the word that women are not to teach our authority over men. We saw that clearly in the word. What does this have to do with spiritual gifts here asking? Stick with me. It's on a true local church, Manor to be the pastors and elders and in our teaching on manhood and Womanhood we saw. That there was a connection between manhood and Womanhood and the spiritual gifts, especially the one that Paul says we should be, especially Desiring prophecy. and I would say, Feels pretty strongly about this for anyone to teach any series on biblical manhood and Womanhood.

That's Siri should include 1st Corinthians 11.

The first half of it. So we did that. And in that we saw this, now you'll see the connection, but I want you to understand the head of every man is Christ. The head of a wife is her husband. The head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesied with his head covered, dishonors his head every wife who prays or prophesied prophesied with her head uncovered dishonors. Her head since is the same as a forehead or shaving. So in the word of God, God says in the Gathering. There are various times. There are times when women men and women artists share. There are times where the word says, women are to be silent. Will see one of those in chapter 14, but here we have a time that clearly says, there are times in the Gathering that women can share. Sure, what prayer for prophecy? Paul begins his teaching in the church to the church. He's beginning a teaching here on Church order. How do we order our gathering? So he started that teaching before talking about communion. He started that teaching with a teaching on head covering. We noticed something. The word of God is saying, if there is to be an order in the practicing of the gifts are powerful. It is often why if there's not order chaos or false teaching, and Sue's afterwards, cuz this is powerful and power were talking about so God gives order to it.

Protection.

And we see that there are times when both men and women may pray or prophesy in the church Gathering men, men uncovered, women covered. This should not surprise us. It should not surprise us at Polly dresses it in the Gatherings. I read it before I started. It shouldn't surprise us because Joel The Prophet Joel says in Joel, 2:28 29th, and it shall come to pass afterward. I will pour out my spirit on All Flesh.

See that a Pentecost? Your sons and daughters shall prophesy your sons and daughters. Shall prophesy your old men. Shall dream dreams. Your young men shall see Visions even on the male and female servants in those days. I God says, will pour out my spirit.

Peter proclaimed. The inauguration of this

Solve all the word, in many places says that women are to be silent in the Gathering and are not to be the pastor's or Elders are teachers having teaching Authority, or any authority over the man in the church. Here. We see men and women Are powerfully and importantly. Take place in the Gathering of God's churches. By doing what by praying or prophesying in the Gathering men with their head covered or uncovered women with their head covered. So I taught on that a while back, you can go back and listen to that full message. And we as a church desire to do things, the way God would have us do them and we desire. For both men and women to contribute to the gatherings, in this way, for God's glory and the building up of the church. Puppy for practicing. That's another question. Arises. What does it mean? Prophesy. What does it mean? Women can prophesy in the Gathering? Is that even a thing anymore has its East? Are we doing it the way? The Bible tells us to our we had Danger? Going off the tracks. Are we? You really Desiring prophecy. Truly are we? Eagerly design prophecy? as you'll see the Bible commands us to In the Bible, commands us to eagerly desire. Something we at the very least, should study it and take it seriously. So, here we are. Before I read our texts for today, I would like you to open your Bible to 1st Corinthians. 10 verse 31. T'pol. I just written to the church in chapter 10. He'd written to them a warning. A warning against idolatry and he gets to the end of chapter 10 and he reminds them and us that everything we do everything we do. Everything, no matter what we do. Everything must be should be. Have a glory of God. 1st Corinthians, 10:31. So whether you eat or drink, whatever you do, do it, all whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

This makes everything we do is serious matter. Whatever you eat or drink or put in your body. Or you can ask to yourself even.

What I'm looking at with my eyes are doing with my hands. Is it to the glory of God?

What I'm doing with my time or the words that come out of my mouth. Are they to the glory of God?

And then we noticed right after saying this, right after saying everything you do to the glory of God, Paul transition to the way churches should Gather in the order that those Gathering should have. We should ask ourselves. Only those other questions. We should ask all those other questions should also ask ourselves. Are we practicing and Gathering? For the glory of God. In the way God has prescribed for us.

Something Brian said in his sermon from Hebrews 8 cost caught my attention.

Hebrews 8, chapter 5 says this. For when Moses was about to wreck the 10th. He was instructed by God. Listen to what God told Moses before, he was to erect the tent. Before the construction plan even started before a wall even went up. God said to Moses, Hebrews 8 verse 5, see that, you make everything, according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.

Do you remember the details given about the Tabernacle? Or how about the temple?

The intricate details details, how they were to make that.

And God said to Moses, make sure that you make everything according to the pattern. That was shown to you. God gives us the very pattern of worship. God gives us a pattern in the ordering of worship. And in that is freedom to worship. And then He blesses us with his amazing spirit, and spiritual gifts in that worship. Those great power as We Gather great power. so, we must, we must Do everything according to the pattern shown to us in the word? Whatever we do is to the glory of God. And we look at the context, Paul transitions from do everything to the glory of God. Nanny says, here's how you do order your Gatherings to the glory of God when you come together to worship God.

And we should do everything according to the pattern given to us by God. To the glory of God. So when you look at your Bible you start to see this word in chapter 11 this word. Now some of your bibles are in some of the paragraphs. It's the word but a lot of the paragraph start with now or right after he says, do everything to the glory of God, we get this string of topics together. Now this now this, but this now this Right after saying do everything to the glory of God.

Pause telling us how to properly gather. To the glory of God. And there are some intricate details.

There are some things we might say that's secondary. At least I'm worshipping God. And God says, we must do everything according to the pattern prescribed to us.

and we asked, Okay, in chapter 11, it says men and women can contribute to the Gathering through prayer and prophecy. You know, it had uncovered or covered and then what does he discuss next communion?

And then starting in chapter 12, he discusses, and gives order to the practicing of the spiritual gifts. He says he'll membership is essential in contacts, membership is essential to the practicing of the spiritual gifts.

And why they must be done in love that love chapter, is there for a reason? It's not out of context. You just all of a sudden started talking about love and then went back to the spiritual gifts. It's right in the middle of this for a reason. You think I must be done in love? I will get to those things when you get to chapter 14, he lays out. How do we then order the church in the practicing all these gifts? That we experience the power of them and not chaos or abuse, or any such thing. And we must see.

Then we talked about even tongues and prophecy and chapter 14. When he talks about the gift of Prophecy that is tying this whole thing together prophesying chapter 14th back to chapter 11. We talked about women praying prophesying in the Gathering. He's tying it all together. These are not two different stuff to separate topics. Men in chapter 15. Paul reminds us that all we do is to be done for the glory of God. Why? Because of the Gospel of God?

I just wanted to know. I remind you, Brothers of the Gospel. I preached to you, which you received in, which you stand by which you are being saved. If you, if if you hold fast to the word, I preach to you. Unless you believed in vain 3 end, this discussion from do everything for the glory of God, to men and women, praying and prophesying the Gathering uncovered or covered. Then communion. Then the spiritual gifts, church membership of the spiritual gifts, again, and how to order them and practice and powerfully in the end, it with the gospel. Time this whole thing together. It's list of things. We are to do for the glory of God. Head coverings communion spiritual gift membership to order into gets all done in Love. By the way. We'll see that. And then the preaching of the word. Because of the gospel because of the Gospel that has saved you in is saving you. That is the flow of this section of the word of God. That is what the holy spirit is, showing us here in context, in chapters 11 through 14. I hope you see that these all go together. It should not be pulled out of contacts. They're in the context for a reason. That the church would order the church to the glory of God.

We live in a culture where much of the visible church is very weak. Much, much of that has been more exposed to the pandemic. Is false teaching much false teaching, and we may begin to wonder. Where is the Holy Spirit?

Where's the holy spirit in the church?

Give him what the word shows us here. But the spirit might be poured out upon the church in the spiritual gifts. We should ask, are we like God said to Moses? Making sure that we do everything according to the pattern that we might. Experience the power of the Holy Spirit.

Let me say this, if Moses was told to make sure that everything. And a tabernacle everything in that tent. What's to be done? Exactly? As the Lord had told them to do it. If that is true of the Tabernacle. How much more so of us, do you not know that you are God's Temple? And that the spirit of God dwells in you.

I need to be reminded. I wonder if we need to be reminded.

How much more so should we the New Covenant Church order? Our practices strive greatly to do everything as the very temple of God. In the way, God is described to us, or maybe, more importantly, why would we not? Why would we not?

Soon, as you've seen the book ends of this section on how to order the church. The bookends Ark, do everything to the glory of God and then in chapter 50, do it all to the glory of God because of the Gospel of God.

Very important for me to say this both for spiritual gifts. And head coverings. Both of those topics cuz they're connected both of them. None of the reasons given for any of this teaching God's ordering and practicing of his church. None of the reasons. Given for either of these, our culture. Things happening in corn.

Or something that only applies to early church. We don't see that here in the world.

It's important to note that now because it came up in the teaching on head, coverings and it will come up over and over again in this series. In fact. Paul starts the section on head, coverings, and the section on the gifts in the same way. And in both, he makes it very clear. These are for all the Churches of God.

Not just the early church. Both of these texts the entire Bible but this entire book of the Bible specifically because Paul Paul knows all these things are going to be questioned until throughout this entire book. You can look scan it through the entire book. He makes it clear. This is not just for the Corinthians. Listen, 1st Corinthians 12 to the Church of God that is in Corinth and those Sanctified in Christ Jesus. That's us. Those called to be Saints together with all those in every place who call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. That's what the letter is to all those in every place. You would call Upon Jesus 1st Corinthians, 4:17, and he said,

And think about this out somewhere to look at Traditions here today. He says, that is why for that is why I sent you Timothy. Why? To remind you of my ways in Christ. As I teach them, notice, he's referring to these things in the in the book. He's saying to remind you of these things and then he says, as I teach them everywhere in every Church.

Everywhere in every Church. It can't be more clear than that. 1st Corinthians 7:17. Let each person lead the life that the Lord is assigned to him and to his God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches. 1st Corinthians 11:2. Now I command you because you remember me in everything and maintained the Traditions as I deliver them to 1st Corinthians, 11:16. When one is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice nor do the Churches of God. Can be more comprehensive than a 1st Corinthians 14:33. For God is not a god of confusion, but of Peace, as in all the churches of the Saints and then he goes on. Turtwig never say, communion or the gospel or church membership or love are only for the Corinthians.

We also cannot pick out head. Coverings are spiritual gifts or certain spiritual gift and say such things.

Best way to Bible, doesn't tell us to say those things, clearly.

Also, if if we do say head coverings is not for today is very difficult, then to say the spiritual gifts are for today.

Or the so-called revelatory gifts are for today. That would be an incongruity argument.

We were never say church membership or communion or cultural and so we can change them in some way.

This chain of Truth About The Ordering of the church all goes together.

Revival Church, my desire for us is that we would continue to be a church serious about communion. Taking communion off. And in the very way, God is described. We take communion together. Remembering the cross. My desire is that we would have a church series about church membership. Because we are serious about the Bible. And the Bible says we are to be members of the body not just members like we signed up for a club members like we're part of the same body when you hear membership gear that body parts ship. Same body together. I want to beat your serious about that. My desires. We would continue to be at church serious. About the gospel, and the preaching, the word. And I am blessed to be a part of a church. That is. And my desires, we will be at church serious. About the spirit of God. Holy Spirit. In our Salvation, in our sanctification, in our preservation, and in our dependence, upon the spirit As We Gather for worship, and he grants us gifts as he Wills as his church. My desires that we would be at church serious. About the power and the glory, and the unity, and The Ordering of the practicing. Of these things. Exactly? As got it prescribed that

I see us at church led by biblically qualified men at church at prep preaches and teaches the word of God with Sirius Joy. A church at love one another as family. Church that is committed to one another like parts of a body.

And also a church where men and women are joyfully and freely and powerfully participating in our Gatherings through prayer and prophesying man uncovered women cover and powerfully to the glory of God as God has ordered. That would be beautiful. Maddie would pour out these gifts upon us, his church to build up his church. How in the way he has prescribed and promised in his word.

Cuz the hour is coming and is now here. Where the true worshippers will worship the father in spirit and Truth. The father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit. And those who worship Him must Worship in spirit and Truth. Without turn to our tax for today, 1st Corinthians 12. 1311.

Now, concerning the gifts, the spiritual gifts Brothers. I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans you were LED astray about to new titles. However, you were then therefore. I want you to understand therefore. I want you to understand. The no one is speaking the spirit of God, ever since Jesus occurs. And no one can say Jesus is Lord, except in the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of guess what? The same fear, there are varieties of service for the same Lord and their varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all and everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the spirit for the common. Good for the one is given through the spirit, the utterance of wisdom into another the utterance of knowledge to another The Same Spirit to another Faith by The Same Spirit to another gift of healing. By the one Spirit to another workings of Miracles to another prophecy to another, the building to distinguish between spirits to another various kinds of tongs to another, the interpretations of tongues and all these, all these are empowered by one. The Same Spirit Will portions to each one individually as he Wills. God's word to us the church this morning. Before we go any further. This will be helpful for the rest of the series. We're going to need some theological terminology. So few will have them up on the screen if you want to ride him down or

Part of the reason supporting his, I know many of you are at various parts along the Spectrum.

Let's get it out. There was to find what they are. Some of you may not even know exactly what you believe on this topic or to do. You wouldn't know the name or category or what it is and that's fine. These are not words pulled out of the Bible. The theological terms to help us put things into some order. To know a set of beliefs.

Number one, the station ism.

In general. Cessationism is the belief. That some of the spiritual gifts. That we will see today. Have ceased.

Hence cessationism that some of the spiritual gifts that we will see today have ceased. Is the belief that they are no longer gifted granted given by the spirit to manifest in each one as he Wills.

We'll talk along the way about where that comes from or why. Some think that we're not going to go into all that right now, but for now that is cessationism the belief that some of these spiritual gifts have ceased. We're to continue ilysm. I believe that the gifts have not ceased. They continued.

And even more, that they will not cease until Jesus returns.

Hence, the continuous believes that the Holy Spirit can continue in our day to give these gifts to members of local churches.

There are some men who have beliefs in between these two. Tomorrow open to the guests, but cautious because of the fake and misuse practicing of the gifts happening around the world.

Practicing them in ways. Other than the way God has clearly commanded us here in the word. So these folks would say they see the Bible teaches they continued but they're cautious to practice.

The last one we talked about charismatic. You'll see a word today. Greek Charisma. Charisma.

You may have heard the word charismatic. I'm going to Define. It is also two definitions for this lens on a charismatic or not. I guess how you define it, but I'm going to find it the way I'm going to use it. Charismatic, the real simple. Is a practicing continuous?

One, who believes the gifts continue and is fully open to the practicing of them.

Some charismatic you could rightly say many or even most in our day do not practice a gift in the way. We will see that God has commanded us to and that is a big issue that is not for the glory of God to make up our own way to do things. God has told us to do.

but, Don't automatically think charismatic and think they're Faking It. That's false. Because a true continuous. Would be a Biblical charismatic.

Leaving to get Perseus and practicing them as God has commanded.

Before we go any further. Let me just lay it out there for you. I'm the pastor there for you should know where I stand before I start teaching. So you're not sitting there thinking. I wonder what he believes and you can focus on the teaching.

Me also tell you, I've come to the place. I am at very indirectly. I didn't grow up in a church, especially not a charismatic or even a continuous Church. And I hope, you know, I greatly desire. I greatly desire. For myself and us to be holy and biblical Saint who honor and glorify God by teaching every single word of his word as his word. And that his word is to be joyfully obey. Free Leo made. At the expense of looking foolish to the world. Maybe knowingly, ready to look, foolish to the world. And you might deep study of the word of God on this topic. I see no way to confidently. Teach you from the Bible that these gifts have ceased.

We will see Commandments such as pursue, love earnestly, desire. The spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy prophesy. R4r 1st Corinthians 14. 39 Soul Brothers, earnestly. Desire to prophesy and do not forbid. Speaking in tongues. Church, if we are not absolutely positive for certain that God has clearly in his word and Andy's gift, which I am not.

We need to take these commands, seriously.

We must be careful that we are not disobeying God by omitting and important. Truth in his word.

Over fear or concern that others are abusing it.

Need to do what Paul would command the Corinthians to do, know how to practice it, rightly and practice it rightly. Even more, even more than me, not seeing a way to say that they've cease even more. I see God teaching in his work that these gifts are for us, New Covenant. Believers. That in these last days until Jesus returned. And we are then made perfect and see him face-to-face. But until then they continued.

Over the years, I like many of you had doubts about the trip to guess. I thought they were kind of weird and ignored them.

I'll tell you after much study and prayer. Imma continue list. Maybe better said, I believe that the Bible teaches. What we would classify as continuous. I don't see any evidence biblically that these gifts have ceased. Especially evidence that would overcome the clear biblical command to desire them and not forbid. Them.

Anytime an argument leaves the Bible. And then becomes one of the primary reasons to come back to the Bible and not do something that the Bible commands.

We should take a better. Look at the Bible for our answer. The word is sufficient.

Since that's what I believe, I believe the Bible. Also tells us to eagerly desire these things especially prophecy.

In whatever way the Lord would buy, his will bless our church to practice his gift by the very order. God has commanded in his word that we do, so.

Along with Biblical preaching and loving and teaching, the doctrines all of them. A Biblical Churches of God. Should teach. And okay, and I do understand that at least from my point of view, from my point of view, much of cessationism is a right response. To abuse and fear, and error across the land, when it comes to the spiritual gifts. In other words, we should rightly respond to the misuse, the improper use and order or practice of something. God has laid on his word. We should like that. At the very least, it's nearing sin to do so. It's not full out, send in many cases. However. It seems that much of cessationism is an over response to that.

Please note. The church in Corinth is seemingly at church with some disorder and improper practicing of the gifts. And Paul, as I said, doesn't tell them to stop. God through Paul by the Holy Spirit, reminds them of the exact order in, which there to practice those things. And then he says eagerly desire.

The solution to error. Is not cessation. But the solution to error is a proper response of Correction.

Set a time to stop communion or or prophecy or tongues. Paul will tell them to properly practice communion too. Eagerly pursue the Holy Spirit by eagerly pursuing, the spiritual gifts, especially prophecy. With the order Paul had taught in all the churches. So, my aim is that we as a church would prayerfully pursue.

These three things when it comes to the gifts. It's at the bottom of your sheet on way. To remember these three things when it comes to, the order, in the practice of the gift will see these throughout these teachings. This is the three-part aim for practicing against number one, eagerly pursue the spiritual gifts. Especially prophecy number to practice them in the way. And the order God has commanded. A number three, do not quench the spirit for test everything. Buy the word and hold fast to what is good.

That's our aim verse 1. Now, concerning the spiritual guest, brothers. I do not want you to be uninformed. Here we see again, the word now.

He says, I do not want you to be uninformed. In other words. God wants us to be in the know.

He doesn't want us to walk around, not doing these things because we lack an understanding of them.

Wants us to be informed.

And yet. How many in the church are uninformed?

Lacking an understanding of the Holy Spirit and the spiritual gifts. How many are uninformed even maybe, especially those, who are practicing the gifts yet uninformed? What what the word says in and how the word says we should practice in order then?

Power right power. So it's like giving an eight-year-old of gone and not telling them how to shoot and just tell him to go outside and play with the gun. We need to do it with order in the right way. Got it prescribed, There Is Power.

You get the first three says he wants us to understand.

It should be a bit bothersome to us that the devil has caused so much confusion with these two texts where the Holy Spirit, explicitly says. I want you to understand and you want to come to head coverings in spiritual gift. There's confusion everywhere. Bible says about those two things at once. You understand. May God clear up any spiritual confusion in these areas that he clearly says he wants us to understand. Who's his two brothers? Fellow believers. What does he want us to? Not be uninformed about? What year did see something in verse 11 closely? The word for gifts that you see here in first one, that's not actually in the original text.

Most versions. I looked up had the word gifts in the translation. It's not in the text originally. You don't see the word Charisma for gas until 3, but almost every translation puts that word in this sentence, I think, because they assumed, that's what Paul is saying, but the Greek word forgiveness is not in this sentence. the word for spirit is,

Makes us a bigger issue.

I don't want you to be ignorant about the Holy Spirit. Are the workings of the spirit or the spiritual?

Paul says, I don't want you to understand how this spirit will work among the church in the order. Gatherings of the church. Pretty saying, I don't want you to be uninformed about how the Holy Spirit should and will.

Work in and through the church when you properly order and gather as a church. Same thing goes for a 14-1 which is pursue love and earnestly desire. It says the spiritual gifts. The most translation for the word gift isn't there. It's pursue love earnestly, desire. The spirit or is he deserves a spiritual? And then he says, especially prophecy.

So why doesn't Paul want them or us to be uninformed? Notice what he says about their past before they were saved.

For those of you that studying this text. I think there's something more something important for us to see in verses, 2, and 3. There's two and three, you know that when you were pagans, you were LED astray to new titles. However, you were laying there for, I want you to understand. I don't want to be informed. I want you to understand that. No one is speaking in the spirit. Ever says, Jesus is accursed. And no one can say Jesus is Lord, except in the Holy Spirit. What's the context here? It's not salvation. That's not the context of what he's talking about.

It's actually not Pagan idolatry. That's the primary context here.

Primary context is the spiritual, the Holy Spirit. And we'll soon see the spiritual gifts. So he says, when they were Gentiles, I know it's as pagans, but the word there were that's actually there is a word for Gentiles. I think they translate a pagan because they were worshipping new titles with the word gentiles. I think Gentiles actually fits better into the context. He saying however, they had Idle No matter which Idols they had any idle. They could come up with Paul wants them to know their previous fake God's. They couldn't talk. Their false Idols that used to follow, they didn't speak. No matter which I do that was they were mute. This may be a reference and I didn't tell Christian to read it to Psalm 115. What is almost as their Idols are silver and gold? The work of human hand. They have mouths, but do not speak eyes, but do not see ears, but do not hear nose is but do not smell hand, but do not feel feet, but do not walk. They do not make a sound in her throat and those who make them. Become like them. So do all who trust in them.

So, you saying?

The spirit of God speaks.

Fear God speaks to the people of God. So anyone who truly from their heart says, Jesus is Lord in the spirit. He's animal that right. Anyone who says Jesus is Lord, the spirit because the spirit of God speaks through God's people. Unlike mute idols. Anyone who run their heart? Truly says, Jesus is a curse is not speaking in the spirit of God. Because the spirit of God speaks. Do the people of God? The guy who speaks to us would never speak something like this, but Jesus is a cursed. The spirit of God does speak to the people of God and say truth. Jesus is Lord. As an aside. This should be a tool for judging prophecy. I think that's why you saying, that's if God is speaking, truth will be spoken. And will bring glory to our lord, Jesus. And fake gods do not speak. But our God.
