Not perfect man but in the list as are other men with failings as well.
What we need in church today:
I. Man of Honor 11:35b
A. Mighty man
** strong and fit
1. Training Boot Camp
2. Determination
3. Long term future
B. Man of Valor – Courageous
Courage to give God credit
** Cade bronze star – now E7
In process of time changed
Apply:
Good qualities – but honor, valor, respect do not Save nor make things right with the Lord.
Men you need a personal Savior.
Need mighty men for the Lord.
Christ was and we need be.
II. A man who feared God
Much in O.T. more than just being religious.
We need men who fear God today.

God can do the same for you and I today!
B. He made a promise v 30 And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD (tragic vow)

We need men like Jepthah who:
III. Who follow through v39
BUT
A. Pride says I must
2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. [1]
With is promise & pride he:
1. hurt self v35 depression is not of God.
2. hurt those we love v38 two months of mourning
3. hurt all of Israel a nation v40
B. Whole thing was his idea, not Gods!
1. contrast, Abraham & son
2. Gods test and provision
3. here see man self imposed not of God
C. We need men who follow in total obedience.
Apply:
Must get self out of the way. Self causes danger and hurt to all.
Let God lead --- no lets make a Deal.
Obey God and his Word.
Conclusion:
God fearing men of honor who follow the Lord not self.
