Temptation of Christ

“I’m only human!” After Adam and Eve, that means something. “You can’t expect me to say no and yes to everything correct?!?!” But Christ does something totally new. He restores humanity back to the Father, perfectly. And we, like the parable of the weeds and the wheat, are wheat growing up alongside weeds. And sometimes we thing we’re weeds don’t we? The weeds have more fun, they’re just so natural! The Church says we shouldn’t do this, but whatever, I’m wheat, I’m led by the Holy Spirit!!!! And then we become like the weeds, but worse because we were once something greater. And so we come to the end of our lives realizing, I can’t go back, I can’t undo the things I’ve done wrong, and the things Ive gotten right, I wish they could somehow be even more right and true and beautiful. We realize that the Church was backwards to us because we were running the opposite way and that it is a scary proposition to leave the solidity of the Church’s teachings on everything, and your relationship to God and to me. When we receive the Eucharist we have just said the creed and so we receive in one heart and mind as Church. If we leave the fortress of our home, we are subject to all kinds of storms outside. But even in the Church, we smell the smoke of Satan and are lured by a “liberality” and supposed “freedom.”

“He faces the temptations put to Israel: Hungry, He’s tempted to grumble against God for food (see Exodus 16:1–13). As Israel quarreled at Massah, He’s tempted to doubt God’s care (see Exodus 17:1–6). When the Devil asks for His homage, He’s tempted to do what Israel did in creating the golden calf (see Exodus 32).

Christ was offered an Easy way out…the crown without the cross

Christ is tempted in the three ways that Adam and Eve fell. Now remember, Adam and Eve saw clearly, were immortal, and walked with God, and they got tricked, how about you and I? And so Satan attempts with the same tactics. And for our Lord, these were very great temptations indeed, to have the crown with no cross.

Una vez, estaba comiendo en nuestra casa de formación, Serra House, en Riverside, y nuestras monjas nos cocinaron desayuno. Hicieron pan tostada. Era muy muy duro esta vez. Mi rector dijo, mira, Cristo puede convertirse piedras a pan, pero nuestras monjas pueden convertir el pan en rocas!

"¡Solo soy humano!" Hago errores. Después de Adán y Eva, eso significa algo. "¡¿No puedo decir no y sí a todo lo correcto?!?!" Pero Cristo hace algo totalmente nuevo. Él restaura la humanidad al Padre, perfectamente.

Decimos, qué esta malo qué pedir y mandar qué Dios haga lo qué quiero yo? Pues, nada, debes, pero hay más a tu vida qué solamente diciendo a Dios lo qué quieres tu. No es un genio en una botella, y con unas pocas palabras de magia el haga nuestros deseos.

Decimos qué es malo con el poder, y control, Jesus es el Rey del Universo, en el principio del ministerio o después. Solo queremos los responsabilidades qué Dios ha puesto en nuestros cargas. Busco primariamente al voluntad del Padre, y muevo en humildad y mansedumbre.

Se fue al desierto en el poder del Espíritu. ¿Por qué? Porque no hay distracciones. No puedes evadir a ti mismo, o a tu Dios. Si estoy aburrido en la oración, con la teologia, con mi trabajo, puedo mirar una película y relajarme. Puedo evadir a mi mismo.

Y Jesus se enfrenta a las tentaciones puestas sobre Israel. Para comenzar, necesitó conquistar los pecados del Israel antiguo. “ hambriento, es tentado a murmurar contra Dios por comida (ver Éxodo 16:1–13). Mientras Israel peleaba en Masá, se sintió tentado a dudar del cuidado de Dios (ver Éxodo 17:1–6). Cuando el Diablo pide Su homenaje, es tentado a hacer lo que hizo Israel al crear el becerro de oro (ver Éxodo 32).
