09 Leviticus - Consecration
Brings an end to the seven days of consecration, and signals the beginning of the priestly ministry.
First order of business – Two sacrifices, a sin offering and a burnt offering. That’s after 7 days of sacrifices. Why? The 7 days were for his consecration.
These occurred on the 8th day. Eight being the number of New Beginnings. He was now to begin his service as High Priest.
Aaron needed to be acceptable in the eyes of God (Burnt offering), and he needed to be forgiven and reconciled unto God (Sin offering) for any and all sins. Primarily for any unintentional sins. Dead animals and blood defile a man.
We are reminded of Hebrews 10:1-4 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Herein lies the reason for the sacrifice of the sinless Lamb of God. Only the blood of Jesus Christ could / can take away the sins of the world – once and forever.
But not just Aaron, the children of Israel also needed to offer sacrifices. Another,
· Sin Offering
· Burnt Offering
· Peace Offering
· Meat/Meal/Grain Offering
Why? V.6 “Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commanded that ye should do: and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you.”
Imagine how long it must have taken for all that takes place in verses 8-20.
V.21 Lastly, we see the Wave Offering, which I have yet to cover.
The Wave offering first appears in Exodus 29:24, and first in Leviticus back in chapter 7:30 and then again in chapter 8.
What is it? Literally speaking it is an offering that is held up and waved before the LORD.
Leviticus 7:30 His own hands shall bring the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the fat with the breast, it shall he bring, that the breast maybe waved for a wave offering before the LORD.
Leviticus 8:27 And he put all upon Aaron's hands, and upon his sons' hands, and waved them for a wave offering before the LORD.
Leviticus 8:29 And Moses took the breast, and waved it for a wave offering before the LORD: for of the ram of consecration it was Moses' part; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Leviticus 9:21 And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave offering before the LORD; as Moses commanded.
From these, we see that the one making the sacrifice was given the breast, the choice piece, and he was to then wave it before God, symbolizing that he was offering God the best he had.
When we stand in the presence of God and wave our hands back and forth, crying out Amen, or Hallelujah, or Praise God – all of these should be symbolic of our offering ourselves unto God.
So, the next time you stand up waving your hands unto the Lord, think on these things and consider what it is you are saying unto GOD.
Unto THE O God, all of this is done, and unto THY GLORY.
V.22 “And Aaron …blessed them…”
Numbers 6:22-26 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, 24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: 25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. 27 And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.
V.23-24 – As Promised!
And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people. 24 And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.
In closing –
How have you consecrated yourself to GOD? How can you consecrate yourself to GOD?
Biblically speaking, we need to love the Lord with all our heart…
· Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
· Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
· Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
· Deuteronomy 26:16 This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
Beyond that, we need to:
· First remember God grace – Ephesians 2:8
· Second, remove all idols – 1 Corinthians 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
· Thirdly, repent – Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
· Fourthly, commit your heart to God – Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
· Fifthly, submit – Romans 10:1-3
· Lastly, Romans 12:1-2
