We
We all may see this, but it can be difficult
We see this in tonights passage
God
Pray: May the words of my mouth and the meditations of our hearts be pleasing in your heart our Rock and our Redeemer
Recap
Paul is giving his testimony because he is being accused of leading astry
He is using this to remind the people of his Apostolic authority from God, not from man
He tells about his meeting of the other Apostles
Recounts a meeting where false brothers attended.
Tonight we will look at the climax of this story.
Galatians 2:11–14 ESV
11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”
This is a heavy passage. I think sometimes we may pass over this narrative not seeing its importance in various ways.

The Opposition

Paul did this when they were together, to his face
Not gossiping to others
Opposed, not push back, the word gives the idea of hostility
Found condemned
Not spiritually (lose of salvation) but found guilty
Catch someone

The Charge

Peter used to eat with everyone, Jews and Gentiles alike, but he began to withdraw
Food laws, rituals of cleanliness
The difference was when a certain group arrived
Weaker brother vs hypocrisy out of fear
He was afraid of this group from James
Led others astray, including Barnabas
Weaker brother, warning against leading others into sin
Following the law was not the problem, but alteration of the gospel

The Accusation

In the presence of them all
Process of church discipline
Outward sin that is leading others may weren’t an exception
We may not have the entire story
Paul may have spoke with Peter about this previously
At the meeting previously mentioned
Elders discipline to warn others
No one is perfect
Expecting them to live as Jews even when he was not doing it
We see this a lot today
