Opening & Intro

Think about a time in your life that you made a series of poor choices.
Then we find ourselves in a state of confusion as to why things are happening like this?
We then have to make a choice do we keep on that road or do we change lanes?

Main Point

What do we do when bad things happen?

Why Does it Matter

It is only temporary. God is victorious. Our troubles today are very reall but only temporary. Hope and trust are the key to surviving the troubles that we face.

Scripture

First Objection - 1:2-11
Question: Why does God allow wickedness to go unpunished in Judah? 2-4
God’s Answer: The Babylonians will be the consequenses of Judah’s sin. 5-11
Second Objection - 1:12-20
Question: How can God let Babylon—a nation even more wicked than Judah—attack Habakkuk’s nation? 12-14
God’s Answer: Babylon will judge Judah and then God will judge Babylon. 15-20
God sees these things coming and makes preparations for it. He gives His people victory when they repent. They end up separated from Him and His promise.
Things that sepatare us from God:
Pride and ambition 2:6-8
Arrogance and greed 2:9-11
Cruelty 2:12-14
drunkeness 2:15-17
idolatry 2:18-19
The fix:
Universal worship of the holy God 2:20

Application

Result: There are always consequenses to our actions. We have to trust that God is in control.
These 5 things also separate us from Christ. When we drift from our relationship we need to repent. We need to shift our focus and trust that what the Bible has told us is true.

Closing

Jesus made it possible to be reconciled to God. Even though we are saved, we can drift away and need to adjust our position to enjoy the hope that is found in our relationship with Him.
