Earlier in chapter 7, Jesus starts out with judging. The text on not judging others is often times mis-used.
Matthew 7:1-5
Judging in itself is not wrong. It is why we are judging that matters.
Are we judging to make ourselves look good?
Jesus warns believers about false prophets.
Outwardly everything seems fine, but on the inside they are wicked.
It is much like the Pharisees. They knew all the laws and thought that they were righteous.
False prophets will come into the church.
We don’t possess the power to fully know if someone is truly a believer.
We are told to look at their works.
Matthew 24:11
As believers we have to be able to discern who the false teachers are.
Ephesians 4:14
2 Timothy 3:1-5
1 Timothy 6:3-5
False prophets will be judged.
The life of individuals will be characterized by how they live.
Both the child of God and the lost person will live a life representing who they serve.
The distance between what we say and do should become closer.
There should be a change in who we are when we come to Christ
Living for Christ means that it will cost us.
We need to examine who we are in Christ.
Verse 19 tells us that every tree that does not bear good fruit will be thrown into the fire.
We will be recognized by our fruit.
Does the way that you live represent Christ?

This is one of the scariest passages in all of Scripture.
There is a difference between having head knowledge and heart knowledge.
The Pharisees knew the law and observed them, but it was out of obligation and appearance rather than a love for God
