The greatest Controversial issue that is spoken anywhere in this world is the name Jesus.
One can speak of God all day long, even with a Pagan. I have had wonderful God talks with Muslims. the love to talk about God. People, even pagans will be alright talking about a higher power or the man upstairs, but bring in the name of Jesus and you will have door slammed in your face. The moment you mention Jesus you yourself have just shut every comfortable position that the unbeliever is holding onto for salvation. and though there is no position but one that leads to life, none the less man wants to feel comfortable on death row without Christ.
John 3:17 (NASB95) — 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
Judgment may be in the form of finding guilt
Judgment may to evaluate between that which is acceptable and that which is not Righteous and unrighteous discarding that which is unrighteous
Judgment as a rulership function.
Joseph the Son of Jacob started out as the Father’s favorite Son.
He is then sold into slavery by his brothers for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelite traders who sells Joseph into slavery in Egypt.
Joseph enters Egypt as the suffering servant.
Every step of the way Joseph was obedient to His earthly masters.
then it was that despite the injustices the providential hand of God moved and Joseph is exalted to the second highest ruler in the land. He became the architect and planner in creating a supply depot to feed the people during the famine.
Pharoah Said to Joseph
Genesis 41:39–40 (NASB95) — 39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has informed you of all this, there is no one so discerning and wise as you are. 40 “You shall be over my house, and according to your command all my people shall do homage; only in the throne I will be greater than you.”
Just as there is no one greater than Jesus but for the Father whom the Son of Man pays homage to.
the Jewish people expected two comings.
a Savior
Messianic King
One that would free His people from the bonds of Slavery, Like Moses
and one that would be ruling king the Son of David who will reign forever
What the Jews did not expect that he was one in the same person. The one that the Jews put to death not knowing that while they battled to put him to death, that he would victory over that death and by doing so demonstrated the power over even their own lives.
and that risen Savior will also be King
the cross had to come before the crown. and it will be at that lowest of the low of Jesus life when dying naked upon the cross would the greatest victory ever told.
1 Corinthians 2:7–11 (NASB95) — 7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; 9 but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.
John 3:18 (NASB95) — 18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Note that the condemnation is clearly in view here.
How many times have you heard preceding the Gospel message that we must tell God that we are sorry for our sins.
Sins are not the issue here. I can stand all day long before the Judge in court and tell him how sorry I am for speeding. I am still going to have to pay the fine.
Folks we were lost sinners that is our very nature coming to the cross. of course we have sinned and come short always of the glory of God as sinners.
Apple trees produce apples, fig trees produces figs, a sinner tree produces sin.
If every thing that is not of faith is sin then that is all that the unbeliever produces.
the issue is not what you think of your sins but what do you think of this Jesus.
We are not condemned on the basis of our personal sins. It says that right here. Let’s just say that you could be sincerely sorry for your sins. and that you sinned your last and you were able to go on without committing not another sin. It would not matter, the issue is what you think of this Jesus. for without him there is no way to bridge the Gap between God and yourself.
Mark 16:16 (NASB95) — 16 “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
Once again what is the issue?
Remorse for past sins
tears of repentance
sincerity of heart that you did wrong
none of above it is believing upon the Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
John 5:24 (NASB95) — 24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
What of our passed sin in repentance?
well when you turned away from one thing you turned toward something else.
when we turned from our sins we turned toward Christ.
Try to add anything else to Salvation as in believe in Christ and do works. believe in Christ and pay penitence. believe in Christ and do this or that then you have not believed and you are still lost in your sins.
It is faith alone in Christ alone.
He who has not believed in the name
1 John 4:9–10 (NASB95) — 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Tell me what is it that is so complicated? Or is it too simplistic for an unbeliever?
No it has to be more that just believing there must be an and to it.
If your still trying to work out the “AND” you are no saved. You have disbelieved discredited the very words of Jesus. And I wonder how many in Hell will recognized how close they came to salvation and would not believe in the only name under heaven by which we can be saved.
John 3:18 (NASB95) — 18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
There is that word again
Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon 3439 μονογενής

3439 μονογενής [monogenes /mon·og·en·ace/] adj. From 3441 and 1096; TDNT 4:737; TDNTA 606; GK 3666; Nine occurrences; AV translates as “only begotten” six times, “only” twice, and “only child” once. 1 single of its kind, only. 1A used of only sons or daughters (viewed in relation to their parents). 1B used of Christ, denotes the only begotten son of God.

he is our mediator standing to bridge the gap between God and man.
in reconciliation the mediator is equal with both parties in dispute.
Jesus being God is equal with God and can represent God to man.
Jesus being man, the perfect man without sin, our high priest represents man to God.
as a high priest, Jesus offers the perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins.
His own body.
John 3:19 (NASB95) — 19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.
John 1:4–5 (NASB95) — 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overpower καταλαμβάνω [katalambano /kat·al·am·ban·o/] v
John 8:12 (NASB95) — 12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
John 9:5 (NASB95) — 5 “While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.”
John 12:46–50 (NASB95) — 46 “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. 47 “If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. 49 “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 “I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”
Jesus is the true witness as he had identified himself to Nicodemus
But why the hostility?
what the condemnation?
Because the Gospel the good news is also condemning for when one stands before the Lord at the great white throne it is not for one’s personal sins that one is condemned for.
It is the simple matter that they had heard the gospel and they had rejected the way the truth and the life.
turning to the Lord meant that man would have to turn away from their idols which they hold onto in the darkness.
