Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, people of Jerusalem! Shout for joy, people of Jerusalem! Your king is coming to you. He does what is right, and he saves. He is gentle and riding on a donkey, on the colt of a donkey.

To begin with brothers and sisters, Christian Friends, Well Wishers, and Saints of God as we glint, gleam, and gaze at this glorious text we get a glimpse of the gallant grace of The King of Zion is Coming. It has often been said where this text is concerned

Ride on- King Jesus- Ride On because no man can not hinder thee. This morning I want to present to us our Lord Jesus the Christ as the Humble, Honored, and Holy King of Glory. Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lord .Jesus is the Promised King. And He is the Messiah of the World. Let’s get started because this picturesque Palm Sunday scene occurs in Jerusalem. It happened during the time of the Famous Jewish Passover. The Passover was the miraculous deliverance of Israel from being Egyptian Slaves. The Passover is about the how God sent the death angel to kill all of the first born of Egypt. The Lord told Moses that every Israelite must put the blood of an unblemished lamb over their door post and the their home would be spared and when God spared all of the Hebrew Israelites the Egyptian let them go free.

It’s a famous story that’s been told down through the ages in biblical antiquity. And the Passover even has symbolic implications that carry over from the Old Testament into the New Testament with Jesus the Christ. being the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the whole world.

And all of the NT texts in the synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John says when Jesus came close or nigh to Jerusalem, He was getting ready for the Passover feast celebrations.

The significance of Jerusalem is that, Jerusalem is the Holy City, its the city God deemed as the Holy city. Jerusalem is the place that where people came to pray because it was a sign and symbol that you were close to the very presence of God Almighty.

And we get this Jerusalem concept from the book of Genesis when Abraham met King Melchizedek, the king of Salem. Listen good Salem is the original name for Jeru Salem And then the King of Salem Melchizedek is merely from my opinion just Jesus Christ incarnate back in Old Testament scripture. Because the scriptures say that Melchizedek had no begin of days nor end of days. And the book of Revelation says that Jesus is Alpha and Omega the Beginning and the Ending the first and the last.

So Mark 11:1 says that Jerusalem is the place..... And during the Passover Feast, Jerusalem swelled and swelled in population and there were over 250,000 people in the great ancient metropolis. There were migrants, and immigrants and pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem to participate in this great Jewish Holiday.

In 2022 Jerusalem has a population of (922, 000 ) and when the Passover happens the population is nearly 3.7 million people. In biblical antiquity they celebrated the passover for many days and even today the Passover is still a holy convocation. Here’s another fact about Jerusalem, Jerusalem is a giant Mecca for theocratic worship. Our Christian religion believes in One God.

Then the text teaches talks and tells us in Mark 11:1 in the b clause about the villages of Bethphage and Bethany. Bethphage in the Greek vernacular is the word Bay Fa Gay which means Fig House and a part of the Mt. of Olives was located in Bethphage. Then there was Bethany. Bethany in the Greek vernacular is the word Bay Fa Knee which means date house and also a another part of the Mt of Olives was located in Bethany. And people would go there after the day time feasts were over. And we know that Jesus and His disciples often times went there also.

And so in the Mark 11 text we find the following “Jesus sent two of his followers 2 and said to them, “Go to the town you can see there. When you enter it, you will quickly find a colt tied, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here to me.

Verse 3 NCV If anyone asks you why you are doing this, tell him its Master needs the colt, and he will send it at once.”

I read and reread this text and I can’t help but notice verse three from the NCV says the statement Its Master needs the colt. Not the Master has need of the donkey colt. After carefully and prayerfully reading the text I found that Jesus claims authority and ownership over the donkey. Because whether you look up the word Master or Lord it comes out to be the word Kyrios.... Kyrios means Lordship it means master or authority. It means Supreme in authority it means that Jesus Christ is the Owner and Controller. Because the word says “Its Master needs the colt and, he will send him.

The text also give a symbolism of the disciple’s obedience. And obedience is better than sacrifice. I’d rather do what Jesus says in blind obedience than to say “I ain’t doing that”. The disciples had blind faith and the results were astonishingly positive. Because Obedient people get things done! Obedient people have God’s presence and favor in their lives! Obedient people may be fractured but God will grant them the needed Grace and Mercy and right of passage to make it through what they are going through. But when we’re disobedient Listen disobedient people fall, fail and fizzle out before the finish line.

I’m sure that the disciples were sooooo surprised at this fact, “the fact that if they spoke the precise words that Jesus said for them to say to the people, the people would comply and act right”.

because Matthew 21:2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find a donkey tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. 3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. 4 All this was done, 2x , that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon a donkey, and a colt the foal of a donkey.

I like it because all of the Synoptic Gospels pretty much say the same thing about this story.

The King of Zion is Coming

6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them. “Church If we do as Jesus commands then things ought to work out the way Jesus says it ought to Amen? Because the our theme text says in Zachariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly. O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, you King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, foal of a donkey..

Ride on Jesus Ride on because The King of Zion is Coming. The Matthew 21 text says that there were two donkeys and I believe Matthew because the Zechariah text says it too,

and besides one of the rationales is that the younger colt needed his mother to keep him steady and calm.

The bible says that the disciples brought the two donkeys to Jesus, both mother and colt, and that the colt had never been written on before. Matthew 21:7 says and brought the animals to him and threw garments over the colt for him to ride on .

Ride on King Jesus Ride On. I found out in the historicity of the bible that the lowly donkey has been associated with kingship. The donkey was used as a royal animal for the Jewish Monarchs. And the people of Jerusalem knew that. And any sign of Jewish Royalty made the crowd rejoice and give God Glory.

And let me take it up a notch, When the disciples put their clothes on the backs of the donkeys it was a type of symbolism. 1. It said that Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings and 2. It said that Jesus Christ is the Messiah Jesus is the same today, yesterday, and forevermore. and finally 3. It said that One day Jesus is coming back for a church without a spot or a wrinkle and the question is will you be ready? Shall I look for you there.

I’ve got to close in here
