Hymn: More About Jesus 245 & Cover With His Life 412
Ezekiel 28:15 (NKJV)
You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.

Introduction

He had everything: the looks, the talent, the respect and he had the power. Not only did he have it all. He was the perfect leader, the perfect gentleman (if you please). He was intelligent and an intectual. Lucifer truly had it all. He had a fulfilled life until it wasn’t.
Ezekiel 28:15–18 (ESV)
15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you. 16 In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. 18 By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries; so I brought fire out from your midst; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you.
He was Blameless
He was wise
He was a guardian cherub
He had a heart
He was beautiful
Lucifer had everything that heaven could afford. It’s perfect environment and perfect society. There was no inequality or suffering and he stood next to the King of Kings.
He had more than we could possibly imagine, yet he felt unfulfilled. How can you have everything and still want more? Sin can never be satisfied!

Sin’s Origin Story: Heaven

Ezekiel 28:17 (ESV)
17 Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you.
Isaiah 14:13–14 (ESV)
13 You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’
It’s interesting to note that what the Bible is describing it’s all what’s happening in Satan’s heart:
Pride
Corrupt Wisdom
Iniquity
The “I” Factor
Despite having everything Lucifer yearned for something more, unfortunately it was for something that was impossible for God to give him, in the NT he reveals his deepest desire:
Matthew 4:8–9 (ESV)
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”
Sin is a physiological, psychological and spiritual dis-ease that leaves a person incurably unfulfilled. It would appear that in the abundance of material wealth, adulation or achievement this sense of unfulfillment increases. This phenomenom is described by the Apostle Paul as the Mystery of Iniquity (2 Thessalonians 2:7)

Sin’s Origin Story: Earth

“Sin [is] human activity that is contrary to God’s will.”
It infected the human species in the Garden of Eden:
Genesis 3:1–5 (NLT)
1 The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” 2 “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. 3 “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’ ” 4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. 5 “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”
Sin Corrupted God’s Social Order (Separation & Self-interest)
Gen 3:1 And he said unto the woman
Sin Corrupted God’s Authority (Doubt & Rebellion)
Gen 3:1 Yea, hath God said
Sin Corrupted God’s Truth (Misinformation & Lies)
Gen3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

A Sign of Things to Come

Revelation 12:7–8 (ESV)
7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
Sin creates division, disruption, turbulance in religion, in the environment, socially, economically, politically and individually:
Isaiah 57:20–21 (NKJV)
20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, When it cannot rest, Whose waters cast up mire and dirt. 21There is no peace,” Says my God, “for the wicked.”
This is the law of sin and it’s as real as the law of gravity:
We have a strange illusion that mere time cancels sin. But mere time does nothing either to the fact or to the guilt of a sin—C.S. Lewis
But it will not be this way forever. The same way that sin was dealt with in heaven is the same way it will be dealt with on earth:
Revelation 12:11 (ESV)
11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

Conclusion

Sin originated in heaven in the heart of Lucifer who then infected the heart of humanity. Please church let me be clear, THIS IS NOT NORMAL!! As long as sin exists we are living a life unfulfilled.

What is Sin?

It is the glory of God not honored. The holiness of God not reverenced. The greatness of God not admired. The power of God not praised. The truth of God not sought. The wisdom of God not esteemed. The beauty of God not treasured. The goodness of God not savored. The faithfulness of God not trusted. The commandments of God not obeyed. The justice of God not respected. The wrath of God not feared. The grace of God not cherished. The presence of God not prized. The person of God not loved. That is sin.” ― John Piper
As we begin exploring more about Jesus, we will have no doubt that the only antidote to a unfulfilled life is Jesus, who promises:
John 10:10 (NLT)
10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
