Thinking your children's spiritual development is the church’s responsibility.
Big Idea of the Message: Our sins have the potential to impact our children and the generations that follow.
Application Point: Through Christ, there can be freedom from the sins that have been carried down through generations.
Big Idea of the Message: God has commissioned his people to teach subsequent generations who he is and what it means to love him.
Application Point: As the primary discipler of my children, I should live out my faith in word and deed every day, not just on Sundays.
If you neglect to instruct [children] in the way of holiness, will the devil neglect to instruct them in the way of wickedness?
No; if you will not teach them to pray, he will to curse, swear, and lie.
If ground be uncultivated, weeds will spring.

Being deceived into thinking that keeping children happy is as important as helping them be Holy.
Big Idea of the Message: Father and son examples from the Old Testament illustrate that, while our influence on our children matters, only God can transform a heart to follow him.
Application Point: Every person has their own journey of faith.
I can live in obedience to God and trust him to move in my child’s life.
God’s corrections are our instructions, his lashes our lessons, his scourges our schoolmasters, his chastisements our advertisements.
And to note this, the Hebrews and Greeks both express chastening and teaching by one and the same word (מוסר, παιδεία), because the latter is the true end of the former.

Being more concerned with children that are good than the glory of the gospel of grace.
Big Idea of the Message: Don’t provoke your children; instead, instruct them to love God.
Application Point: As an adult, I can show grace and kindness to my child, just as Christ has shown me, even when my child is not living up to my expectations.
I have been in his family, and have observed him both at home and abroad; and I know what I say of him is the truth.
His house is as empty of religion, as the white of an egg is of savour.…
