Worship the Spirit

I.        Introduction: The Eclipse of the Spirit. Doctrinally Defined, but Practically Denied.

II.    Worship the Spirit in His Address: Possessing the Titles of God in Name

A.    Called God     Acts 5:3-4 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God.”

B.     Called Eternal     Heb. 9:14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

C.     Called Creator     Gen. 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. ; Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

III. Worship the Spirit in His Attributes: Possessing The Traits of God in His Nature

A.    Omnipotent     Luke 1:35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

B.     Omniscient     1 Cor. 2:10-11 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

C.     Omnipresent     Ps. 139:7-13

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

if I make my bed in the depths, you are

there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me

and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;

the night will shine like the day,

for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

IV. Worship The Spirit In His Assignment: Possessing the Task of God in Mission

A.    Working in Illumination     Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

B.     Working in Regeneration     John 3:5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

C.     Working in Sanctification     Romans 15:16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

D.    Working in the Resurrection     Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

V.    Conclusion: The Holy Spirit should be lifted up in Worship, as a member of the Trinity. The Spirit is God, and the Spirit is a Person, who deserves our adoration and Worship as he ministers to us in creation, redemption, and finally, glorification.
