Big Idea of the Message: In life we want a return on the things we do. But in our relationship with God, this can lead to spiritual disciplines being treated as transactional.

Trust (v. 3)

Now as we jump into this Psalm of David he is telling Israel not to “fret” but in turn “Trust” Yahweh;
But what does “fret” mean - the Hebrew word translated “fret” means “to heat one’s self with anger”;
Anger clouds people’s minds and keeps focus on issues and not God;
Anger keeps people from seeing any hope - yes even hope in God;
And without hope in God it will be hard to “Trust” Him;
Romans 15:13 “13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Do you feel hope today or are you feeling hopeless;
God promises to stay “faithful” in His promises and this what David is reminding Israel and we need to remember this also;
Do you “Trust” His promise;
What would you be willing to “Trust” God with today, what do you need to stop fretting over today?

Delight (v. 4)

What does it “Delight” mean - to be very grateful or have great pleasure;
What brings you “Delight”;
How delighted are you in God - how can your “Delight” increase;
By being moldable into His desires - we can easily find “Delight” in His blessings but what about the storm are you still moldable;
Are you willing to molded by the ultimate potter, are you will “Delight” in Him;
But what about the last part of v. 4;
Psalm 37:4 “4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (emphasis added)
Some people consider God as a vending machine - I’ll throw out prayer and He’ll toss down and answer;
However, consider this if we “Trust” God more in everything, if we “Delight” in Him move everyday, if we become moldable, then our desires will move beyond things and into alignment with His desires;
Are you ready to move into delighting completely in God?

Commit (v. 5-6)

How many of you have haters in your life - this is the type person that looks at everything half empty, almost broken and cannot say anything nice;
So in life we carry burdens and those burdens can be heavy, they can weigh you down on there own and then you throw a hater into the mix;
The weight becomes unbearable;
Let me tell you what to “Trust”, “Delight” and “Commit” to God;
God wants to help with your burden by you have to take the first step;
Take that 3 x 5 card and write out your burden and then come tape it to the cross and release it;
But why because said to cast your burdens upon Him;
Psalm 55:22 “22 Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
So here the question “What’s in it for me?” the lightening of burden, a new delight in the Lord and a refreshing trust in who God is and who your through Christ.
Application Point: We seek God not to check off a task on a list but to experience knowing him.
