All of these people decided at some point in thier life that it was important for them to .....and fillin the blank.....Henry Ford could have easily been the guy who made flip flops or bicycles. And nothing would have been different. Wwe would just know him for a different legacy.
Each of these indivuduals decide what was most important in their life and no matter the difficulties, no matter the confustion, no matter the money. They pushed through to achieve the most important thing.
SO lets do an exercise today. Maybe Cyndi can count this as a work out for us. Its not a physical one but a mental exercise.
And listen today God wants to speak to you. but what i believe we need to do on sunday mornings is not come in and here a service but to allow ourselfs to test ourselves.
Listen ive heard this before and i bet you have too.
The most important thing a Christian can do is not Judge there own lifes!
So Turn on ya brain its almost noon time anyways and answer this.
Answer this What’s Most important to you?
If you think money is the most important , then you will pass on to your children the love of money.
If you think building kindness is most important then you will pass on those characters traits to your children.
Listen The bible isnt against these things.
The bible isnt against money.
The bible isnt against Relationships
The bible isnt against your family.
These are all good things.
Whats bad for us is when we take a good thing and we make it the ultimate thing!
We amplify these good things God has created for us and we make it the most important thing in our life’s thats when we fall.
Isnt it interesting that God creates all these good things and at the route of what makes it bad isnt our application of it in our lifes.
So today were going to open up the word and allow God to speak to us about how to get to a place we can leave a Godly Legacy.
What is a Godly Legacy?
It has to do with what is eternal not what is temporary.
Godly legacy has to do with things that will survive even after you die
First let us define Godly Legacy
the thing about this defintion is its the definition of where we sit at now. ALive and able to obtain it.
This is the def of what it looks like if we are living in Godly Legacy.
BECOMING who God wants us to be.
DOING what God wants us to do.
So we may HEAR “Well done good and faithful servant.”
Three things that were going to get to after we read. And as we read i may stop to talk to us a little about what we are seeing because we may not come back to it.
So flip open to
Philippians 3 NIV
1 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless. 7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained. 17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. 18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
some sort of transitional coversation here
So here are three things we need in order to ensure we leave a Godly Legacy
1). Encounter Him
Philippians 3:7 ESV
7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
counted
Philippians 3:8 ESV
8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
what does it mean to gain christ. What are we gaining?
John 17:3 NIV
3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
King Solomon had recieved all the great wisdom and knowledge of the land and became the worlds richest king that had ever existed, Solomon had decided he was going to do everything under the heavens. Aka everything one can do in the land.
Solomon says about his adventure
Ecclesiastes 2:25–26 NIV
25 for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? 26 To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
The things of this world are so plenty one cant accompany any type of worth inside of it.
paul speaks of surpassing worth.....Incomparable or outstanding worth of just knowing Jesus Christ.
Knowing Jesus.
You guys know President Joe Biden? Right?
But you don’t KNOW him.
My first time at a revival. I encountered Jesus….but i didnt encounter him.
everything else is
rubbish..hebrew word..dung…niv says garbage
So what is it to Know Christ
gain christ
Jim Elliot who was an missionary whom died trying to evangelize in Ecuador said
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
Philippians 3:10 ESV
10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
Know
Power
may share/fellowship in
becoming/ or being conformed to
Psalm 27:4 NIV
4 One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
Seek intimacy
2). Pursue Intimacy
Philippians 3:13 NIV
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
one thing i do......
Intimacy is what we call the experience of really knowing and being known by another person.
Some one that knows us really well, or at a deeper level.
I know my wife intimately i know her very well. The quirks that make her who she truely is.
Thats why at times when we are meeting someone new, or seeing someone we havent in a long time. I see when she feels awkward, or comfortable. She may be acting normal to that old friend. She may revert back to how they use to talk and joke, but i see the little things that are making her squirmish inside. lol
See me and my Mika didnt recieve that over night. Just like you and your spouse didnt get to that place through a plunder of dates, it came down to how you built trust.
See at times we are just literally growing with one another, other times through the tough situations and hard moments we learn to be vulnerable little by little and in this experience we grow our trust with each other, which takes us to new depths.
let me ask you a question .....in Your relationships....Have you Continued Growing In Intimacy.. Im not speaking about the privileges of marriage…im talking about intellectual growth, Character building in the relationship, trust and vulnerbilities taken to the next level. Always moving forward.... The pursuit doesn't stop after the bells stop ringing and the vacation comes to an end....
Id challenge each married couple in this room to go home and talk about legacy talk about life, and Ask this question out loud to yourself. Have i continued to grow intimate. And if so then awesome. But im sure just like us all, we get to places of exhaustion, we get to places of rest, we get to places of chaos and thats fine. These make us stop and fix issues sometimes. But growing with your partner is so instrumental in this day and age. So you can not only deepen your relationship and grow on the foundation you have already established. But more so for the kids that are watching.
We have to teach our children that Marriage isnt just a ticket to God sanctified Love, Its deeper than that on all accounts. So we must press forward amen.
This is the same way with Christ.
We dont just have a privilage to Enter into heaven…we have depths of water we must enter into.
We learn to Trust Christ. We learn to grow with him and be dependent upon Him.
See i think this is interesting when someone ask us how are you and your wife or you and your husband we say yeah were good.
When the same question is asked with how are you and God we answer either
I could do better, i havent heard from him in a while.
See when we talk about our correlation with God we describe it like this.
Im close to God, I follow God. God is in my Heart.
We use these descriptive words but its not his physical location to us, were not describing our actual location in correlation with God. We instead are describing the Level or Depth of Intimacy with Him.
Paul continues in this verse by saysing He hasnt gotten to where His eyes have been fixed but he is going to keep on going forward.
The thing with intimacy is we must keep our eyes focused on What we want.
In Godly Legacy we must fix our eyes on the eternity of Heaven
If we can determine that knowing God is the most important thing. Knowing Him and growing with Him Intimately is everything than we can do number 3
3). Live In Sufferings
No our life isnt always sufferings, but we can know in our sufferings that there is life.
Because we have a life in Eternal Glory with God.
Romans 8:18–21 NIV
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
John 1:12 NIV
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
in this scripture we see our three points.
recieve him - encountering Him
believe in his name - growing intimately
children of God - produces the glory of God
Yes you may have been suffering for a long time now,
Yes you may continue to suffer but as long as we fix our eyes on Jesus. We continue to head towards with a plan the growth in our lifes with jesus. We bring the Glory of God in this place.
We do so so that we may one day bring Gods glory here on earth to bring His people and His creation hope that one day we may be liberated from decay and brought to fullness in Christ.
Philippians 3:20 NIV
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Our citizenship is in heaven. We are temporary here. Why do we continue to build up our homes with things that we cant take with us.
Ill read it again
Ecclesiastes 2:26 NIV
26 To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
Our focus has to be on pleasing God.
We must stop cluttering our lifes with tools and making material items or plain characteristics the ulimate goal in our lifes. We must fix our eyes on Christ so that we may live a Godly Legacy.
So today ask yourself.
What about your life will outlive you?
In 100 years i promise none of us will be where we are today. 100 years.....there will be a something that outlives us in this moment and time what will that be?
We in this room today have a unique ability. Were a new church. We are a growing church. We are on foundational terms right now. You can be a huge part of the foundation of ignite fellowship.
You have to ask yourself.
Am i becoming who God wants me to be?
Am i doing what God wants me to do?
Will i hear God say to me. Well done my good and faithful servant.
Success has to do with two things Becoming all that God wants for you.
Becoming…So true success has to do with your character.
We are so often focused on doing. We like to do this and to do that. we like to accomplish certain things.
But what we must do first is focus on becoming who God wants us to be.
Allowing God to transform your character. Success without character is dangerous.
Becoming the right person.
God is more concered about your character
Because what you do will become the byproduct of who you are.
We want to succeed in passing on a Godly Legacy
Weather we like it or not we will leave a legacy, good or bad.
What do you think of the word legacy?
For many people its money, house, car, or material things.
I want us to understand legacy a little more clearly here.
So everyone for just a minjute think about whats the most important thing to you?
The name of this message was for to me....
Philippians 1:21 NIV
21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
For to me to live is Christ and to make money is gain
For to me to live is Christ and to Be kind is gain.
See when you live a life worthy of Godly legacy you can live
For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.
I hope you were able to sit back and look at your life today. See the direction y ou maybe traveling this morning. But know this you have the choice now to change it if its not a godly legacy.
Becoming Who God wants you to be
Doing what God has for you to do
so that we may hear well done my good and faithful servant.
So today we talking about what we can do.
And next we we are going to dive into becoming who God wants us to be so dont miss it come on out and join us as we celebrate Fathers in our community!
