Father’s Day 2022

Ephesians 6:4 ESV
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Colossians 3:21 ESV
Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
Today, is Father’s Day “Happy Father’s Day!” I thought I’d start out today by sharing a few precious dad moment.. A moment that would only happen to a dad and only a dad would appreciate…
One night a wife found her husband standing over their newborn baby’s crib. Silently she watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, delight, amazement, enchantment, skepticism. He would stand back, shake his head and say, "Amazing," while smiling from ear to ear.
Touched by his unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, her eyes glistened as she slipped her arms around him. "A penny for your thoughts," she whispered in his ear.
"Isn’t it amazing!" he replied. "When you take the time and really look close, how can anyone make a crib like that for only $45.99!"

There are many different types of father’s in the Bible. There are good fathers like Jonadab who taught his children and they passed it done from generation to generation so much so God blesses him for it
Jeremiah 35:18–19 ESV
But to the house of the Rechabites Jeremiah said, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the command of Jonadab your father and kept all his precepts and done all that he commanded you, therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall never lack a man to stand before me.”
and there are bad fathers, like Manasseh who was king of Israel.
2 Kings 21:1 ESV
Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hephzibah.
2 Kings 21:6 ESV
And he burned his son as an offering and used fortune-telling and omens and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.
There are those who ignored the problems in their families like King David
with Ammon, Absalom, Adonijah, and Solomon. Solomon started good but ended bad.
and those who dealt with the problems.
(Abraham)
Genesis 18:19 ESV
For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”
There are those who despite all their best intentions, suffered greatly such as Job.
Job 1:18–19 ESV
While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, and behold, a great wind came across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
There are those who witnessed great successes for their children.
Genesis 5:27 ESV
Thus all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died.
Methuselah died right before the flood happened. Methuselah was 182 years old when Lamech was born. Methuselah was 369 years old when Noah was born. Methuselah was 964 years old when Lamech died. Methuselah would have died right before the flood. He saw the ark being built and knowing how God was going to protect the family.
Genesis 5:28–29 ESV
When Lamech had lived 182 years, he fathered a son and called his name Noah, saying, “Out of the ground that the Lord has cursed, this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands.”
Many times our children go through a process of change on how they view their dad and it may seem something like this:
DAD OVER THE YEARS
4 YEARS: My Daddy can do anything.
8 YEARS: Dad doesn't know
12 YEARS: Oh, well, naturally Father doesn't understand.
14 YEARS: Father? Hopelessly old-fashioned
21 YEARS: Oh, that man is out of date; what would you expect.
25 YEARS: He comes up with a good idea now and then.
30 YEARS: Must find out what Dad thinks about it.
35 YEARS: A little patience--let's get Dad's input first
50 YEARS: What would Dad have thought about that?
60 YEARS:I wish I could talk it over with Dad once more.
There are many different examples in the Bible. This morning, which one are you? Dads, what kind of a dad are you? Are you proactive in the life of your family? Are you sitting on the sideline and letting mom or someone else take care of the problems in your family?
Proverbs 22:6 ESV
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
It is very important that we take every opportunity to train our children. They grow up so fast. There is so many things in this world pulling at them and they are mostly not good things. Dads, do not miss this.
Conclusion:
Dads, I want to leave you with this:
"Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"
With a timid voice and idolizing eyes, the little boy greeted his father as he returned from work.
Greatly surprised, but giving his boy a glaring look, the father said: "Look, sonny, not even your mother knows that. Don't bother me now, I'm tired."
"But Daddy, just tell me please! How much do you make an hour, " the boy insisted. The father, finally giving up, replied: "Twenty dollars per hour."
"Okay, Daddy. Could you loan me ten dollars?" the boy asked.
Showing his restlessness and positively disturbed, the father yelled: "So that was the reason you asked how much I earn, right? Go to sleep and don't bother me anymore!"
It was already dark and the father was meditating on what he said and was feeling guilty. Maybe he thought , his son wanted to buy something. Finally, trying to ease his mind, the father went to his son's room.
"Are you asleep, son?" asked the father.
"No, Daddy. Why?" replied the boy, partially asleep.
"Here's the money asked for earlier, " the father said.
"Thanks, Daddy!" rejoiced the son, while putting his hand under his pillow and removing some money.
"Now I have enough! Now I have twenty dollars!" the boy said to his father, who was gazing at his son, confused at what his son had just said. "Daddy, could I buy you for an hour?"
The best and worst fathers and dads of the bible
Dads. You have the ability to change the world through one child at a time. Do not waste it. You are given a precious gift. Be the man that God has called you to be.
