You are driving on your way home to see your family. Maybe in your case you are driving home and are looking forward to spending time with your wife, your kids, a pet, or your parents. As you drive into the driveway you look at your door and on it is a letter. The letter says if you want to see your family again meet me at the park off 3rd street. In that moment your hands are sweaty, you are breathing heavy, and adrenaline is rushing through your body. What are you going to do next? Whatever choice you make, in order to accomplish your goal you must abandon all fear and be willing to do whatever it takes to see your family again safe and sound. What this is going to take for you is courage. Are you man enough to be courageous. In order to accomplish our mission as Christian men I will ask you the same question in a different way. Do you love God and those around you enough to be a man of courage?
Let’s go to God in prayer. Dear Lord I pray today we become more bold and courageous than ever. I pray we are all in to live for you and be the Godly men you’ve called us and desire us to be. May we be more like You.
In Jesus name. Amen!
Joshua 1:1–9 ESV
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
God commanded Joshua to possess these two character traits.
Strength: to hold fast and stand your ground.
Courageous: Obeying God and trusting His promises will supply you with what you need.
Get into groups of 5-6 men and answer these questions together
In what ways have you had to be courageous at work? Courageous in your family? Courageous in your faith?
What is something you have been afraid of but after you did it you were joyful and relieved?
What are some steps you can take toward becoming more courageous?
Man of courage resolve:
Here is the Resolution for Men:
I do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife, and my children.
I WILL love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home.I WILL be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her, and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me.I WILL bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength.I WILL train them to honor authority and live responsibly.I WILL confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy.I WILL pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion.I WILL work diligently to provide for the needs of my family.I WILL forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged.I WILL learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God.I WILL seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will.I WILL courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)
