ME/WE/INTRO
We are currently in the series the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus is giving His first sermon, address to the public about what His kingdom is going to look like. It is like a 30 point address and where are now is the secret section of the Sermon on the Mount
What Jesus is going to address is there are certain practices of our FAITH that are meant to be private not public.
There are certain things that it is not for the WORLD to know but only that something you and your Father know
Often the religious people of the day, and we see this at times today, REVERSE what was supposed to be PRIVATE and to PUBIC, and what was to be PUBLIC into PRIVATE
Jesus is going to address those three things and we are going to cover ONE of those today
What was the first things Jesus says to them, this is to be quite?
This is something many of us like to keep PRIVATE unless we have a lot of this and in the flesh if we have a lot of this we want people to know
Or we don’t have a lot of it but what we do have we give away and we want people to know
WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT?
MONEY
JESUS WANTS TO TALK ABOUT OUR MONEY....I KNOW IT IS A MESSAGE THAT PEOPLE DON’T LIKE BEING TALKED ABOUT IN CHURCH, BUT JESUS AND GOD HAVE NO PROBLEM TALKING ABOUT IT.
It is bought up and mentioned 2100 times in our Bible, 3 times more than love is brought up.
Jesus knows the power money can have, it is neutral, but we can empower it
It can take you in a direction TOWARDS GOD and KINGDOM IMPACT or TOWARDS the FLESH and destruction.
Let’s read what Jesus says
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
Look how great I am, how religious I am, I tithed, I read my Bible every day, look at my INVISBILE/VISIBLE BADGES
We read in Matt 5:16 we are to practice our righteousness to seen by others so they will glorify others??
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
so often the religious leaders were looking for their own GLORY
There is no reward for those who seek there own glory
“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
The RELIGIOUS LEADERS WERE GOD at GIVING, they followed the LETTER of the LAW
The three different types are as follows:
1. The Levitical, or sacred tithe (Num. 18: 21, 24).
2. The tithe of the feasts (Deut. 14:22-27).
3. The tithe for the poor (Deut. 14:28, 29).
They TITHED about 20% of their income away
BUT HERE IS THE PROBLEM…what’s the problem…THEY LET EVERYONE KNOW!

We see this happen to the church today…If you give will put your name on our website or in our next email. Amanda Brown gave the platinum gift... I was recently at a church that said if you become a weekly TITHER we will give you a t-shirt that talks about your tithe and have your name WRITTEN on the wall.
Your reward is a human one
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Have you giving so private, so secretive that your left hand does not know what your right hand is doing.
And when you do your Father will REWARD YOU
You are to give but do in such a manner that NO ONE knows, not even you left hand
WHOA THAT IS SECRETIVE
Let’s ask another question....Jesus is talking about our giving is to be in SECRET, but
WHY DOES GOD WANT US TO GIVE HIM AND OTHERS MONEY?
Is it because HE needs it …if we don’t GIVE GOD’S IN TROUBLE??? NO
GOD OWNS IT ALL
“For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills” is in Psalm 50:10
For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
HE DOESN’T NEED OUR MONEY…IF HE DOESN’T NEED OUR MONEY THEN
BECAUSE GOD SAID SO, yes but....GOD’S BIGGER THAN BECAUSE I SAID SO...
Why are we to give? What rewards do we get?
TO HAVE OUR HEARTS ALIGNED WITH GOD’S HEART not the WORLDS....money is not just a money thing but a heart thing
Huh? WHAT DOES OUR HEART AND MONEY HAVE TO DO WITH EACH OTHER
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus knows the temporary nature of things on the EARTH…they do not last…though we live like we think they will....but you do not see a U-Haul following a hearse
THEN JESUS MAKES AN EYE OPENING STATEMENT
For where your treasure is......the thing you value the most, that is were you heart is....the place you put your TIME, TALENT, TREASURE (money)…there is where you heart is at
If you want to know what you TREASURE, FOLLOW THE MONEY, where the money goes it shows what you love.
The question for us is where is your money going? Where is my money going?
Is it going to God’s kingdom or your kingdom?
Others of us might say it is diversified between God and ME....
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Your heart is either going to be aligned with God’s kingdom or YOUR kingdom…
Here is the TRUTH, sometimes hard truth of what God is saying…if God is not receiving your money your treasure is not fully on God, but your kingdom.
God so wants your heart aligned with His Kingdom. There is life in His kingdom.
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Jesus is saying I want your HEART on the KINGDOM OF LIFE not of DEATH
HE DOESN’T NEED IT
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
The reason why we give is to have our HEART be aligned with God not with the WORLD
GIVING HELPS RELEASE THE PULL OF THE WORLD ON OUR HEARTS
It is an act of aligence to God, I am putting my faith, hope, confience, HEART in GOD, not in this WORLD
ONE OF THE REASON GOD ASKS US TO GIVE IS it is a matter of the heart
Jesus is saying we are either going to be about the Jones and getting ahead or about the kingdom
The way we get our hearts on the kingdom of God is by giving to God’s kingdom...
One of the reason we give is an act of saying money you are not my master, you serve me to help me serve God.
REWARD TO GIVING IS THAT OUR HEART IS ON HIS HEART
this is to be done in secret?
Why?
Because if we do it LOUD and proud we are trying to get a REWARD from EARTH
2. Honors and Worships God
You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
It all comes from Him, all your money…you are a money manager
What He says to us about the money we that He asks us to manage? Keep it all? NO
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
HONOR GOD with all of your WEALTH, GIVE PRAISE, RECONITION
first 10% is to be given to the LORD of our pay check not the last…God I praise you and honor you that you provided for me a JOB…I am giving the first 10% to you because of how God you are to me!
That’s a big ask, that’s a lot of MONEY!
How can I live on 90%? or 80%?
REWARD IS I WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU IF YOU HONOR ME
Don’t believe God will do this TEST HIM....over and over we are told not to TEST God but we are told to test Him with money
THEN GOD SAYS TEST ME IN THIS? (they were keeping some of the tithe)
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
God says my REWARD for you if you do this is PROVISION
Has our heart on the right kingdom (do this in secret)
Honors and Worship God and we receive a reward of provision
3. WHEN WE GIVE IT blesses others and US when we give to them
It blesses them with $ and happiness/joy
We are giving them Joy and happiness
HOW MANY OF US HAVE RECEIVED MONEY FROM SOMEONE? NEEDED MONEY? HOW DID YOU FEEL?
BLESSED?
THE REASON GOD HAS GIVEN YOU MONEY IS NOT JUST TO HONOR GOD BUT TO BLESS OTHERS
- YOU GET TO BE BLESSERS
- BLESS THIS PERSON
- BLESS THAT PERSON
WHY? JESUS HAS BLESSED US AND HERE’S THE CRAZY THING
WE BLESSED BY OTHERS TO BE A BLESSING
JESUS SAID YOU BEEN EVEN MORE BLESSED WHEN YOU BLESSED
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
HOW MANY OF US HAVE GIVEN TO SOMEONE AND WE ARE MORE BLESSED THAN THEY WERE?
WE are more BLESSED happy when we give
We know this when we see a child open a present they cannot afford on their own....what is the most exciting part? TO watch kids open up gifts
We lose this as adults because many of the gifts we get, we can afford.
SCRIPTURE AFFIRMS THIS BLESSING
Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

JESUS SAYS TO US WE ARE TO BLESS OTHERS TO BE LIVE JESUS BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED AND HERE’S THE THING YOU WILL BE MORE BLESSED IN YOUR GIVING THAN THEY ARE IN THEIR R

4. Supports the work of the church
FOR THE CHURCH AS A WHOLE TO MOVE FORWARD IT NEEDS MONEY....THIS MONEY LEADS TO SALVATIONS, TRANSFORMATION, GROWTH,
KINGDOM OF GOD COMING TO EARTH
What Paul is doing throughout his time in Corithain church is preaching the Gospel and the ways of the kingdom and collecting Money from the church in Macedonia to support the church in Jerusalem.
GOD IS SAYING TO US, we are to given in SECRET TO
HONOR GOD
HAVE OUR HEARTS ON JESUS
BLESS OTHERS
SUPPORT THE CHURCH
WHEN YOU DO YOU WILL
Provided for
Blessed
AT THE END OF THE SERMON LIKE THIS THIS CAN BRING CONVICITION AND SHAME
THE ENEMY SAYS SEE YOU ARE NOT A TRUE CHRISTIAN....YOU ARE NOT GIVING 10%....
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
Feel the promises of God of provision
And the blessing we get to be apart of
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
What is God saying for you to do with your money?
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
