Fresh Vision for Missions

Tell someone the gospel!!

Serious message with some light hearted videos to try to keep everyone awake after prom night – no snoring during prayer

Broken treadmill

Doesn’t life feel like that sometimes – In life there is a fix

Missions is about sharing with others the fix for life. Its sharing the gospel.

(NIV) Romans 1 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome. 16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.

Psalm 105:1

I.       The gospel: Other inadequate substitutes

Snow and wrong car

(NKJV) Romans 1 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

A.     A good life

1.      Good life demonstrates a different foundation for life

2.      But Lots of people live good

3.      Admiring someone’s goodness does not make one righteous (Mother Theresa / Gandhi)

B.     Compassionate works

1.      Compassionate works is a foundation that says you care

2.      But Lots of people show compassion and care for people

3.      But having physical/emotional needs met does not meet spiritual needs (live better and die and go to hell)

C.     Social causes

1.      Christians have a responsibility in a democratic society to be salt and light

2.      But The nation’s main problem is not abortion / socialism / taxes

3.      Have good laws does not cause one to be good inside (prohibition)

D.    Religion

1.      Good to involve/invite people to worship services

2.      But religion alone only inoculates from the truth

3.      I act like I have it – but it is not truly real – drop outs

The wrong car – don’t invest all your energy in clearing the wrong car

II.    The gospel: A radical message

A.     Christ’s died and was buried

(NKJV) 1 Corinthians 15 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, …3 … that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen …

B.     Christ rose again and was seen

C.     Christ did it for us

III. The gospel:  Power unleashed

Bowling ball and soccer  // Which is going to win in this confrontation

(NKJV) 1 Corinthians 2 1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

A.     To produce salvation by faith

(NKJV) Romans 1 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

1.      People are lost / separated from God

2.      Heathen

3.      Religious

B.     To give a new relationship with God by faith

(NKJV) Romans 1 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

1.      People are not righteous

2.      Creates a new relationship based on Christ’s righteousness

C.     To transform within by faith

(NKJV) 2 Corinthians 5 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

D.    To address all of life’s needs by faith

(NKJV) Romans 8 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

1.      People face certain death

2.      Can truly live

IV. The gospel: It must be told

Don’t touch the car???? No told him not to

A.     He must trust in the message

(NKJV) Romans 10 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?

B.     First he must hear the message

14 … And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?

C.     Someone must tell him the message

14 … And how shall they hear without a preacher?

D.    So tell someone

(NKJV) Romans 1 15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.

V.    The gospel: A way to tell it

A.     You have sinned

(NKJV) Romans 3 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

B.     The penalty for your sin is death

Rom 6 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

C.     Jesus died for your sin

Rom 5 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

D.    You can be saved if you trust Jesus as God and Savior

John 1 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
