An evangelist had gone to Israel eight times bringing a group with him. Each time he went he would ask for the same tour guide of the Holy Land. Sure enough on his ninth time he asked for that same tour guide again. The tour guide didn't understand so he asked the Evangelists, "Why do you keep inviting me to be your tour guide each year?" The evangelist said, "It is because through the years I have grown to love you and I care about your soul, so I hope to share with you again and again about Jesus Christ so that you can know the joy I have in Him and have forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
The tour guide said, "Oh, you don't want to commit the sin of the desert." "The sin of the desert," the evangelist asked, "I don't understand, what is the Sin of the desert?" The tour guide answered, "It is when you know where water or an oasis is in the desert, and you don't tell anyone else." We believers are often guilty of the "sin of the desert."
Some common mistakes we make in witnessing:

I. Mistakes to avoid

A. Asking wrong questions

1. Don’t ask them if they are a Christian?

Matthew 7:22–23 AV
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

2. Asking if they have trusted Christ as Saviour

Most people will affirm that statement but not know why or have a biblical answer.

B. Getting Angry

James 1:19–20 AV
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Sometimes people say awful things to us, don’t get angry at them, remember who the enemy is. It is not the lost person.
They are the one that is the victim, they are the one who has been blinded by Satan.
Luke 4:18–19 AV
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

C. Addressing questions other than about salvation

As much as possible, stay on point.
One thing you can always answer a question with is:
“That’s a good question. Let’s come back to that, because I think what we are talking about may add clarity.”

D. To doubt the person will get saved

Romans 14:23 (AV)
And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
Matthew 17:21 AV
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

II. Last Steps in Leading a Person to Christ

A. Invite them to Trust in Christ Right Now

What I’d like to do is lead you in a brief prayer so that you can call on Jesus Christ putting your faith in Him alone for salvation. Would you be willing to rust Christ right now?

B. Be Direct and Forward trusting God that they will be saved

Don’t be doubtful, feeling like you overstepping

C. Pray with Them

“Let’s bow our heads and pray so you can trust Christ as Savior.”
“Dear Lord, I know I’m a sinner with no hope in myself.”
“Forgive me for my sin and take it away and help me to sin no more. “
“Today, I ask you to save me - Today, I trust in you alone for my salvation”
“Trusting in your blood that you shed for me on the cross.”
“In Jesus Name, Amen!”

D. Confirm the Decision

Ask them, if they have trusted Christ as there Savior.
“Did you mean that prayer in your to the Lord?”
“According to the Bible, not your righteousness, or your goodness, , where would you go when you die?”

E. Praise God for the Profession

Luke 15:7 AV
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

III. Give them Assurance

One of great hinderances in people’s spiritual lives is not having the assurance of their salvation.

A. Go back to the start

1 John 5:13 AV
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

B. Emphasize everlasting/eternal life

John 3:16 AV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 John 2:25 AV
And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

C. Did your own goodness save you?

Titus 3:5 AV
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

D. What if they sin again?

Remind them that hey are a sinner. That has not changed, rather their position has changed.
Justification in the Bible means “declared righteous” therefore positionally you are viewed as pure and sinless by God in your standing.
1 John 1:7b (AV)
... the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1 John 1:9 AV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Remind them of this important truth.
You are not saved because you are good - and you cannot keep salvation by being good.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (AV)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Soulwinning is one of the great endeavors of our lives as Believers.
If you have not led a person to Christ, endeavor to this summer. If it has bene a while, cry out as Rachel did who said,
Genesis 30:1 AV
And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.
Let us, by God’s grace, be focusing and souls and seeking souls.
