Spirit Wars
Today I want to wrap up this series on Spirit Wars.
The only way to wrap this up is to remind us who wins
In fact the battle is already over and Christ has given us the victory.
God has given us so many verses on this fact it imperitive to remind us of the outcome
It can be very easy to feel like you are loosing in life,
But the truth is we have the complete victory because of what Jesus did on the Cross
Just like on the cross there are times when you think the enemy has won.
but please know Jesus hasn’t stop writting your story
At Calvary, Jesus died and satan received an imagined victory.
But that was neither the beginning nor the end of the story
satan thought he had bested the Son of God and was, thus, at the pinnacle of his pride.
satan’s pride seems to be his most notable attribute and is the common theme held throughout Scripture.
At Golgotha, it seemed the curtains were closing on our humble little story from Bethlehem.
In actuality, satan who was at his weakest point.
While Jesus’s broken body hung lifeless, surely all of satan’s army were jubilant, uproarious, and inebriated on their imagined power,
but they could not have been more defeated in that moment.
Forgiven us “all” our transgressions
past present and future
this change in motivation actually enables us to live a righteous life
We refrain from sinning not because we’re afraid of an angry vengefilled God
.....legalistic Spirit of judgment
But rather we allow God Love for us to direct our actions
You don’t cheat on you spouse out of fear of getting caught
but rather you don’t cheat because your love for them guides you to not wanting to hurt them
This is a type so we can understand God’s love for us.
We don’t resist sin out of a fear of judgment
but rather a overriding Love that pevents us from wanting to hurt God and oursleves.
disarmed the rulers and authorities
having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us
satan has no record of debt with which to accuse us.
Jesus snatched satan’s means of accusation right off his forked tongue.
This is the primary way he was disarmed.
The repentant sinner’s record, then, is erased.
It seems satan’s strategy was to accuse and damn by means of a guilty record,
but through the substitutionary and atoning blood sacrifice of Jesus, there is now no record with which to charge.
He made a public display of them
The language used describes a parade.
Jesus ‘made a spectacle’ of satan by defeating him on the cross and at the tomb.
satan was rendered powerless, and then becomes something of a cosmic joke.
He was showcased in the theater of God before his own rebel entourage and before the angels of heaven.
triumphed over them through Him
Notice the “them” implies plurality.
satan is not acting in isolation but seems to have an organized, mobilized, rebel army, a hierarchy.
when Jesus looked to be at His weakest, He was actually putting on invincibility.
Three days after his death, An angel moved the stone of the enclosed tomb outside Jerusalem.
On Friday, satan surely heckled, hissed, and laughed while hovering over the blood-bespattered carcass of our Lord.
He never saw it coming.
On Sunday, Jesus arose with an indestructible life.
In that moment, Jesus evidenced His Father’s verdict of satisfaction.
He procured a deliverance for His people so rich, so stunning that even the angels could not heretofore comprehend its immensity.
It was a plot twist so beautiful that it satisfied millennia worth of anticipation
We overcome the enemy by
the blood of the lamb
Because Jesus has dealt with sin, in one sense the war is over
the battle will continue until the end of time.
How do we overcome the enemy.....
Speak God’s truth
word of their testimony
So we are called to be victorious by our testimony.
By our words and lives we must consistently declare the truth that Jesus is Lord.
Our identity, the fact that we belong empowers us to proclaim the exellencies of God
We need to be able to speak
I have felt the enemy greatest attacks against me over the last 2 years is to silence my voice
whether it’s on social media on in my relationships
to enemy wants to silence me
that’s not going to happen.
Speak out your testimony
not just how God saved you
but what he accomplishes for you every day.
tell anyone....tell everyone
The enemy may get in a few shots but the Victory is ours
Paul's main point is that he and his friends did not proclaim themselves or carry the message in their own power.
They proclaimed Christ in their weakness and suffering to show His power in and through them.
Life on earth won’t always be easy.
In fact, we must be willing to sacrifice our lives, even as Jesus did.
Yet, even in the face of death we can have hope, for we know that Jesus has defeated our final enemy, death itself:
We don’t need to be afraid of death or any effort of the enemy
