What's with this guy
What’s With this Guy Mark 4:36-41 EBC 5/17/09
The disciples asked the same question that mankind has been asking for centuries- what manner of man is this- in today’s vernacular- what’s with this guys.
Jesus has always been a man surrounded by controversy. The Disciples beheld His power first hand and were forced to ask, "What manner of man is this?" I have experienced Him at work in my life, as many of you have, and I am still asking "What manner of man is this?". Al those who know Him never cease to be amazed by Him and those who do not know Him can never hope to understand Him or His power.
These four explanations might answer your questions:
I. He’s the Stiller of the Storms (Mk. 4:39)
A. No matter of their Source
1. Storms produce themselves in many ways. There are emotional storms, physical storms, financial storms.
2. Some are directly from Satan. Regardless of their origin there is one that can say “Peace be still”.
3. We see that in this storm, Jesus spoke and the storm immediately quieted.
4. Did the storm scare Jesus- not a bit. Did the storm surprise Jesus- not a bit it was all a part of the days curriculum.
1. It would be used to teach the disciples a lesson that didn’t even know they needed.
a. 1 Peter 1:6-
B. No matter their Force
1. Sometimes the storms of life are mild sometimes they can nearly rip our hearts out.
2. Regardless of the intensity of the storms two things are certain
a. We won’t face then alone (Heb. 13:5)
b. We have a God who is greater than anything we can face ( Heb. 13:6: Phil. 4:6-7)
C. No matter their Course
1. No matter the outcome of the storm God will still use it to grow you and to bring glory to himself

2. In the midst of all of Job’s trials he still found the grace to praise the Lord
a. Job 1:20-21-
b. 2 Cor. 12:9-
II. He’s the Savior of our Souls (Heb. 7:25)
He is able to keep on saving you. Not only was the Priesthood imperfect, but priests died. Not so with Jesus as High Priest. The conclusion of the matter is since Jesus is unchanging he saves completely. This is the emphasis of the verses that Jesus saves completely.
A. He has the power to Purchase
1.1 Cor. 6:20-
a. The Bible says we have been bought with a price. That price was the blood of Jesus. We have been purchased. Because of this we are to glorify God with all our being.
1. 1 Peter 1:18-
a. Redeemed- (loutron)- to release after the payment of a price
2. Gal. 4:5-
a. Redeemed- to purchase something off the market and reserve it for yourself
B. He has the power to Purify
1. 1 Cor. 6:9-11-
2. Psa. 103:12-
3. 1 John 1:7-
C. He has the power to Preserve
1. Thank God not only can He purchase us but he can purify us and he can also preserve us. I praise the Lord that He will not lose one little one on the way to glory.

III. He’s the Satisfier of the Saints (Jer. 31:25)
A. He gives internal Satisfaction (Rom. 5:1)
1. When a Saint comes to Jesus he finds complete satisfaction. Gone is the sense of fear and uneasiness and this is replaced by calmness and peace.
B. He gives external satisfaction (1 John 2:15)
1. The new saint will soon find that he loses his desire for the world, they no longer satisfy him.
a. 2 Cor. 5:17-
1. The life that God designs involves receiving Jesus into our hearts and allowing him to change our habits, mindset, beliefs, interests and concerns so we become more like him. In order to become more like him we have to go thru a time of brokenness. . It's the process the Lord uses to strip us of things that have become- an obstacle to our spiritual growth. God doesn't want to be Lord of most of our life, he wants to be lord of all of our life. So he zeros in on areas of self-will and self-sufficiency to remove everything within us that relies on "self".
a. When we get saved we should view things and people different. People shouldn’t be viewed as to their level of education or standing in the community they should be viewed as brothers and sisters in Christ or as sinners needing a savior. We should view them as Jesus viewed them.
b. Warren Wiersbe- During an especially controversial presidential election, a church officer came into a Sunday School class wearing a large pin that promoted one of the candidates. The pastor stopped him and advised him to take it off until he was out of church.“Why take it off?” he argued. “He’s a perfectly good candidate!”But suppose the pin is seen by an unsaved man of the other party?” the pastor replied. “Will it upset him and maybe keep him from hearing the Word and getting saved?”Sullenly, the man removed the pin; and then he smiled and said, “I guess I should remember that people aren’t Republicans or Democrats. They’re sinners who need a Saviour—and that’s more important than winning an election.

IV.He’s the Shepherd of the Sheep (Psa. 23:1-6)
A. He feeds us
1. As we make our way thru life he gives us what we need to grow in Him.
B. He leads us- (2-4) not only is He responsible for feeding us but he is also responsible for leading us.
1. In the right path (Prov. 3:5-6) those who will follow him are never led astray.
2. With the right protection (4)- the Shepherd knows how to protect his sheep and is ever present to do so.
3. With the Right provision (5)- He knows every need we will have along our journey of life and will supply everything needed.
There aren’t enough vocabulary words to describe this man- what manner of men is His he’s Jesus Christ- our savior and Lord.
