John Maxwell writes that there are five levels of leadership:

1. Position based on rights (People follow because they want to.)

2. Permission based on relationships (People follow because they want to.)

3. Production based on results (People follow because of what you've done for them.)

4. People development based on reproduction

5. Personhood based on respect (People follow because of who you are and what you represent.)
